My wife and I have been making trips to Palm Springs for our anniversary for many years, and although our anniversary is in April, we come down in October to coincide with the Fan Belt toss. I had it on my bucket list to drive my Corvair down for it at least once! Last year, I had my luggage lost because of various screw ups with connecting flights being delayed, it basically turned a normal 5 hr trip into a 14hr trip and my luggage came back three days later. In the middle of this frustating disaster of a return trip, I made up my mind to drive my Corvair down this year. Cool to see that there will be a dyno, because this is another thing I've been wanting to do "forever"... yes it is going on the dyno!!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend like I had earlier planned on.

That's awesome, a new Corvair convert into the fold!

Here is Alex and Melinda getting to pick up their new 1965 Corvair. It’s a great story.
Alex is the city worker who met us at the gate at 6AM Friday morning to open the gate to the field for us to setup for the event. I was in my Corvair. He said to me “so that’s what a Corvair is supposed to look like!” Then he told me about his father in-law’s Corvair. He was very polite. You know, one of those rare people you meet that you can tell right away they are a good person.
He brought us the “better of the two” chalk machines to lay out the field and took care of all our trash and stuff without us even having to ask.
He bought two tickets Friday and went home after work and told his wife we were raffling off a Corvair and that he had bought two tickets. She asked how much they were, and he said “$5 each”. She said “go back tomorrow and buy two more.”
Her dad had a Corsa for over 30 years. Unfortunately he passed away and didn’t get to drive it. The car got too rusty and they had to get rid of it. They saved the emblems from it and brought one to the field. She said this feels like this is her Dad rewarding Alex for stepping in and taking such good care of her and the family after he passed away. She also said Alex is a very hard worker.
After buying the tickets Alex said to his mother in-law “I know Dad never got to take you out for a ride in his Corvair but maybe I can, if we win this one.”
And now he can make that come true.
What a fantastic story. They definitely deserve this and it was our honor to be a small part of their big story.
By the way…He won with one of those second tickets that Melinda told him to buy.

Just imagine how different tonight would be for Alex had he argued with Melinda about buying 2 more tickets.
