Unique way to remove Window crank handle?
I have removed 2 door handles, and 1 window handle using the proper tool, struggled for ½ hour, to remove this one with no success, any suggestions?
Re: Unique way to remove Window crank handle?
Did you try the tool opposite of the crank arm? The spring clip can be installed from either end. If you have the plastic cup washer installed behind the crank, I have found the spring clip on either side of it. I have found that dragging an old tee shirt in a U fashion behind the handle will frequently snag the spring clip and pull it off. If you use the tee shirt method be careful. the clip can get away from you

I have an old school tool for those spring clips that works most times. It was my dad's from his greaser/garage days. I use it first, works most times, but when that fails, I bring out the shop towel and run it back and forth and it will catch the clip and pull it off. Sometimes though they do tend to go flying so keep an eye out.

I like the shop rag trick. It works surprisingly good.

I use the shop rag trick or a small piece of stiff wire with a very, very short hook on the end.

Re: Unique way to remove Window crank handle?
I see now there is a specific tool for the clip, too late now, 4 days ago, a guy said use a small pick with end bent up, so i went into my barn and saw paint can opener (bottle cap), bent it slightly more, and wall, all of less than 30 seconds the clip was out :-)
Re: Unique way to remove Window crank handle?
I bought a couple of those tools almost 35 years ago from American Corvair Parts... I think? Could not figure out how to get the tool to work, and no one showed me how those dang things worked until now. Since then I have always used the tool shown in the previous post. I will have to dig them out, if I still can find them. If not, they only cost me a dollar and a quarter each, (1982 dollars), so still no great loss. Thanks.wbabst wrote:I have an old school tool for those spring clips that works most times. It was my dad's from his greaser/garage days. I bought a box of these clips at Autozone, in the "HELP!" section.
