For 65-69 there are 2 different designs.
There is the 65-mid 66 that has the stud for mounting the lug wrench.
The 2nd is the mid 66-69 style with no stud as the stud was moved to the trunk. I would assume so no one steals the lug wrench.

This is what you need, the triangular mount that bolts to the rear frame rails.

I've ordered parts from Davemotohead before. Great service, no issues.

Re: Engine bay spare tire mount
I personally would leave the spare mounted in the trunk unless I just had to have it stock, and if it was factory mounted in the trunk (some cars were) I would certainly not move it. Better weight distribution, spare tire not roasting in engine heat, and better engine access. Only if I was hot on a totally stock setup would I move my spare back to the engine bay. A good solid mount can be easily fabricated for mounting the spare in the trunk if it is not currently mounted (loose in the trunk is not a good idea). A loop built into the vertical face of the trunk floor, a suitably sized large threaded J to hook into the loop and stick out thru the face of the wheel, a nut for the end of the J hook and a perhaps a large washer (3+") if you prefer to put the hook thru the center of the wheel rather than a lug hole.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.

It is good to have the engine option if you plan to take a trip in the car -- gives you more room for luggage/spare parts.
