need some clutch advice ASAP

Post by krimepays »

Can I put a LM flywheel and pressure plate on a EM ?
I have a solid LM flywheel and 9" clutch plate and tomorrow I am going to pick up a LM pressure plate.

Yes, but because of the bent finger design you also would need to change the throw out bearing and pivot ball stud to match the 1964-1969 clutch assembly (see Clark's technical advice below)...

Hey Brad thanks for the reply!
The motor I'm working was obviously pieced together from all different years. It basically had a LM flywheel that was missing the outer plate and mounted flat side out to the pressure plate. The throwout bearing was slightly different but the exact same length
I purchased a used LM solid flywheel from Ca corvairs and the clutch would not disengage completely.
So I am going to pick up a new LM pressure plate but what I'm confused on is the shift fork ball? Why does that need to be changed? Is it to make up for the LM flywheel? How could I tell if it has already been changed?

One more question, is there a certain way to mount the flywheel with regards to the crank position?? Or just bolt it on in any orientation?

Any orientation is fine, as long as the friction surface faces the differential. :nono: ::-):
