AC seems to much load

Post by ldj1002 »

H have a 63 with factory air. I charged it up with freeze 12 and it just seems like too much load on the engine. I then evacuated and charged with propane/butane(NOTE FOR TEST ONLY) It cools real good and not as much load on engine but still too much. I am wondering about a late model compressor to replace the old GM and using R134. If I do that, how much oil. Will the late model compressor not put so much load on engine? Also this old system doesn't have a low pressure switch. Is this right or has it been removed. Any ideas appreciated on how to have a good ac without buying a complete unit. OH BTW the engine seems to have good power so I don't think it is a weak engine having a hard time pulling compressor
