Re: Project: 1964 Corvair Monza 900 coupe in Hot Springs, A
I had to buy a second hand defroster duct for under the drivers side, and replace the ducting to both as well. It isn't that difficult or strenuous, just need a little brute strength. I used the newer rubber type, looks good.
I'd recommend flattening the duct end before fixing to the duct, the length that Clarks supply it at is just about perfect for both sides.
I also found that my heater blower worked today, and that it didn't work through the switch. I wired directly to a power source and went throught the switch to the fan supply,so that at least it looks stock. My thermistor has fallen apart, it is only mounted on card, and it had just gotten too brittle. I've ordered a new one, hopefully it will make it all work again.
Unfortunately the feed I wired the new feed too had a 10 amp fuse in, and that blew, so can I presume that it is safe to just keep upping the fuse size until it keeps working? Does anyone know what fuse should be in the heater fan feed?
I haven't seen a good description of picture of the fuse box in a 64 vert, and I have even bought one of those coloured wiring diagrams from ebay. if anyone has one or can point me at one then I'd appreciate it.

Here's the underside with oil pan off. Not terribly sludgy.

New wheels an tires leaving Ohio today. They say 4 business days or deliver. That's ok. I have plenty of work to do to get it rolling anyway.

Put new oil pan gasket on. A couple of the bolts seem to be on the verge of stripped. I got them tightened up as much as I could, the rest torqued up to about 30 ftlbs. Doesn't seem to be any major leaks yet. Working on tune up now. Need to go get the compression tester from auto parts store in am. Timing was WAY off the scale. It wouldn't idle at the 4+/- as the book says. I got things adjusted where it will idle just over 4 now, but now I have a bit of a back fire out of the right carb. Using the Uni-syn to balance things, but I'm not sure what I'm doing. And the idle seems a bit high. I don't have a tachometer to check it. Anyway, just a few things I'm dealing with right now. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lots of pictures. Just several of the projects I am or have been working on. Note the heater blower is not terribly difficult to get to on the passenger side with wheel removed. Someone wanted some info on that a while back. Coming together. Still lots to do before I can drive it. That's ok it's been great therapy working on this.

I was the one who asked about the blower motor, and I also found that I could remove it with the wheel off. I did this and could check that it was working.
I also appear to be mirroring your experience over here in the UK, with a 64 as well, but mine is a convertible, so a few differences in construction.
My oil pan had a single bolt stripped that someone had put a longer bolt through and a nut on the other side, so that might be a viable solution if one goes.
I'm not sure what you mean by 4, is that degrees? It should be 16 as far as I know, and it runs fine at that.

Well these look different - http://www.carnut.com/specs/gen/vair60.html
I've never seen those specs before, they look like they are for an auto?
From the specs in the link above it says 12 degress, ive set mine a little nearer to 14, as it seems to run well at that. I guess there would be no harm in you at least trying it.

It was set way past the scale when I initially checked and it didn't run too bad. Now it's at 5ish and runs rough. I'll set it to 12-14 and see how it goes. Thanks for the info.

You are making some great progress. I noticed your fuse block really needs some attention (corroded terminals)RedLightBrew wrote:Lots of pictures. YES!!! It's bad! Thinking about new harness with fuse block. Any good sources besides Clark's? Theirs is kind of pricey.cad-kid wrote:
