I have one or two of those, Phil. How soon does he or she need it? They're at my storage but easy to find there.

OK, I see the OP needs a 287 head, but what is a 245 and 286 head as seen in the Junkyard manual? Is 286 the one with the oil drain?

All good questions Frank...I wonder about those numbers too.
Maybe there is a Corvair expert on here who can answer them.
6 total are listed as 1962-63 Turbo 150 heads in Clark's Catalog.

Re: FOUND!! WTB: One good used 1962-63 Turbo Head
The extensive chart in the CORSA Tech Guide may help one figure out any differences. These days one might be fortunate to find one in good condition regardless of the number. A lot of them seem to have loose fit of the valve in the guide.
I have eight 62-63 turbo heads from various places and they're all that 287 number.

Jim, even with and without the oil drain hole being drilled out?

Re: FOUND!! WTB: One good used 1962-63 Turbo Head
I didn't pay particular attention to whether all 8 of my 287s had the drain hole drilled out. I know some had the tube, I didn't notice if any were not drilled or drilled and plugged. I put most of them back on the shelf.
I assume your reason for asking is the 287 was sometimes considered a left side version?

287 is the casting number. Depending on how that casting is machined or dressed, it can be used on either right or left side.Frank DuVal wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 9:01 am Jim, even with and without the oil drain hole being drilled out?
Two of my 287s are finished and dressed for left-side use, one is finished and dressed for right side use.

Re: FOUND!! WTB: One good used 1962-63 Turbo Head
OK, then the "boss" for the drain hole is cast into all the 287s, and drilled as needed. So what is the part number then? OK, I should go read my P&A 30 myself.... But it is the latest one, so many numbers have been consolidated. I was wondering if the 286 might be the part number change for machine work for the 287 casting number head because there has to be a part number difference between drilled and not drilled heads. The Chevrolet service department would not drill a head. Unless the flat rate time for the right head accounted for it.
Unless one finds a NIB head, no one cares about part numbers now. My 102 head NIB the part number matches the casting number.
