Loose antenna base

Post by Columbo3611 »

Wondering if there is an easy fix for a loose antenna base on a 65 Monza. I wanted to check here first before doing anything that could make it worse. Any easy fix outside of going in underneath?

First, you cannot go in underneath! The antenna is mounted by feeding the coax cable into the hole on the fender, through the side of the trunk (late model) into the trunk, then down through the firewall to the radio. Then the antenna is dropped into the hole with its swiveling lower mount vertical then it slips horizontal so it can fit the underside of the fender while you drop the gasket, insulator and nut onto the aerial shaft the tighten the nut. No access below.

Tighten the nut is the answer, but is it a hex nut (regular wrench) or something with slots? (need special tool) :dontknow:

I've got a related question.

I'm thinking about doing away with the antenna on my 65 Corsa Convertible.
I barely listen to the radio, I've got an Aux in I can plug my phone into and I'm also sick of putting holes in my car covers.

Anyone got a good, maybe chrome plug for the antenna delete hole?

I plugged the empty antenna hole on my 65 with a chrome plug that I found at a True Value hardware store. Fits perfect.

I replaced my standard antenna with a plug, but I think it looked funny.

Ended up getting a retractable with an angle pivot base really cheap on ebay. Looks much better. I cut the wire so it isn't plugged into anything.

You can get to it from the bottom by going through the kickpanel vent. This assumes yours is on the drinker's side fender as mine was.
