4 door sport numbers

Post by racergeo1 »

Anybody know how many 1966 4 door 140 with A/C were made from the factory. I do not have a pic of the build tag yet. Thanks for any info.

Unfortunately, the available numbers do not provide for breaking out how many 140 engines and AC equipt 4 doors were made in 1966.
The closest you can get will be the numbers based on RPO as seen here http://www.corvairkid.com/65-67rpostat.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There were 4,780 cars with AC in 66 (spread over the entire Corvair range)
There were 7,500 140 engines installed into Monza and 500 models. This figure does not include Corsa models. Also note, there were 3,948 140 engines installed behind Powerglide transmissions. So substracting that 3,948 will give you the number for how many had manual transmissions.

Not many. If your's is legit it is rare for sure. Is it a 4-speed too? A Monza or a 500?

In storage I have a 65 Monza sedan 110 manual with factory A/C and even that is pretty rare these days.

The 65 140 sedan I drive now is an automatic with A/C but originally came with a 110 engine since they did not offer factory A/C on any 140 in 65.

A 140 with air on any model is rare as it is technically a 1 year only option. The 140 was discontinued as a regular production option and not available through normal means in 1967. There were approx 129 cars made with the 140 as a COPO deal in 1967. The amount of those cars with air is probably next to nothing.
But most of the 66's I have seen with air have been 110's and most commonly on the 4 doors. I just looked at one locally that the guy was desperate to sell and was down to $800. But I just do not feel like parting out another car at the time.
