Headliner install

Post by Middie65 »

I'm about to install the headliner in my 65 Monza 4 dr. I'm looking for advise. How should I apply the 3M adhesive? How long approx. do I wait for adhesive to set up? Do I go side to side or one side at a time? I could have it done professionally for $300.

If you purchased a new headliner kit and you want it to last and look great - then go with the professional install. $300 may be a bit steep but I am not really sure what the going rate is.

300 sounds a little steep. I good pro can work wonders getting it just right. 3M trim adhesive is really too slow and does not grip strong enough. There is a special adhesive (used in a spray gun) that pros use. It is faster and stronger than the trim adhesive. Last headliner I had installed for me cost me 150 for the install (he installed a Clark's repro headliner that I had purchased).

Cool! Please send us some pics when you get a chance.

When I had my 64 Cad Fleetwood I had a pro install the headliner. Money well spent.

Install done by pro complete, wrinkles should come out. I did seats myself.

Looking good.

One constructive criticism, in areas like the inner top side of the pass seat back where some wrinkling shows, use some thin polyester batting (crafts stores have it) over the seat foam before pulling on the cover. You can stuff or overlay as much as is needed to fill any air pockets behind the upholstery and eliminate any wrinkles.
