Remote side mirror

Post by bbosselman »

I am new to this forum and new to Corvairs. We bought our 66 Monza in Sept 2013. It had been sitting in our neighbors garage for 20+ years. We are in the process of restoring it and have become regular customers of Clark's. Our car had a remote side mirror but it has been replaced with a standard bow-tie mirror. I've tried Clark's, California Corvair, Corvair 1, Corvair Underground and ebay. Does anyone know where I can buy a remote side mirror? Thanks for your help.

Have you tried here? Lots of Corvairs for parts.

Clark's lists a new repro of the 67 version on page 303A of their catalog. These were a somewhat rare option. You will have to search for a good used or New Old Stock part to get an exact 66 one.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.

Apparently there are two remote mirror options available at Clark's Corvair Parts. Shown below is the page referred to by "terribleted", plus a second NOS GM universal kit option I discovered. There are no detailed pictures of the second item, so you might have to call Clark's if you want more detail or to confirm availability...

I located three pages of the 1965 Corvair Assembly Manual that describe the Corvair outside rear-view mirror. A copy of those pages is attached...

66 had 2 styles. The early style was the same as 64 and 65 and are big money as the Chevelle and Nova guys also want them for their cars. The entire head swivels and has a plastic pivot that breaks. Good ones can go for over $500. http://www.ebay.com/itm/64-65-66-Chevy- ... 4f&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The later style entered into production 3/2/66 according to the assembly manual and is similar to the 67 style. Here is a repro of the later style http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-1967-Nova- ... c8&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Brad, do you have the assembly manual info for mounting the right side mirror on a late model? I mounted one on my convertible, but I can't adjust it in far enough. Perhaps it's a location issue?

I have all of the 65-69 assembly manuals and have never seen any diagrams for mounting a mirror on the right side. Most guys just measure off the left side door and put it in the same spot.
I have tried the left side mirror on the right but determined that it is no helpful to me as the mirror head is just too small. Just my $.02
