Not Corvair, but an amazing repair of a really broken rare cast iron block. Waiting for part 2.joelsplace wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:23 pm The broken block could be welded but probably not worth it unless you have an RR block.

I texted Starr's phone and got a confirmation of that, sorry to report.
Daniel Ghanim replied that he is Starr's assistant of 15 years and he is running Starr's shop at full speed. His contact info:

Engine shrouds - what paint?
I'm thinking rustoleum rusty metal primer followed by rustoleum satin black enamel.
The shrouds that envelope the cylinders will be done in a high temp ceramic type.
I can't afford powder coat.
Opinions?

Re: 140 engine rebuild
I only use black engine paint which claims to be heat, gas and oil resistant on shrouds. Black stove paint on the exhaust logs and baffles snapped under the cylinders.

Re: 140 engine rebuild
I did the big shroud in high temp Krylon black (on the bench), along with the head covers, still on the car. Hope it lasts a while. Easy touch up either way.

I use Duplicolor ceramic engine enamel. Semi-gloss for the air cleaners & related. Low gloss for the shrouds. Matches great and holds up well. You can also bake it or once it flashes heat it with a heat gun to accelerate for handling. VHT Header paint for the cylinders (Very light coat)!

I would second the idea of a paint that will hold up to gasoline. One leak and all that hard work will bubble up.
I you were local Sam you could drop by and we could powercoat them.
