Re: Vredestein appears to be offering tires in 13" sizes
the problem is the 6.40 is around 8% large in diameter but pretty wide and the 205 is around 8% small in diameter and pretty narrow. expect speedo to read 5 or so MPH high or low depending on which of these you use and of course engine RPM at speed would also change by 5% from stock tire diameter of 24.7"
I am pretty partial to the available Maxxis 185/80/13's that area available as far as 13" tires go. If I wanted something different right now I would have to move to a larger wheel and available tire to get within 1-3% of factory diameter. 7-9% differences can change the whole operation of the car from starting to stopping...you can lose or gain acceleration change, manual shift points by 8-9%, besides screwing with speedo accuracy and engine RPM at speed. I certainly would not want 8-9% more engine RPM on a 3.55 Powerglide car at highway speed for example since they are nearly tached out at 70 MPH already.

Maxxis under $100 each with shipping. Didn't look today, had to edit this. They came down on price again.

I put the Maxxis on mine before Helen show. Over 300 miles on curvy roads. Handled and braked very well for the size.
Thanks

Re: Vredestein appears to be offering tires in 13" sizes
I have 175/70r13 tires on my 64 spyder from the previous owner still and feel like the rpm is just too high at highway speeds and my speedometer is also way off. 70mph is really like 58mph on the gps. If I went to the maxxis tire which is approximately a 25" tire how much would that bring my rpm down in the highway? I did some basic math, the old tire comes out to a 23.2" tire so these tires are ~7.7% larger so if I was previously at 3000rpm I should be at about 2770. Just wanted to see if my calculations were close before I spent money on new tires.

Re: Vredestein appears to be offering tires in 13" sizes
The 175/70/13 tire is actually 9.3% small according to the tire calculator I just used. At 60MPH the speedo will read 65.6. and yes rpms will be 9% higher at any given speed. Here is a link to the tire calculator I used https://tiresize.com/calculator/Gwrodzhi wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2017 6:14 pm I have 175/70r13 tires on my 64 spyder from the previous owner still and feel like the rpm is just too high at highway speeds and my speedometer is also way off. 70mph is really like 58mph on the gps. Re: Vredestein appears to be offering tires in 13" sizes
The Vredestein tires are the first 13" passenger car tires offered by the Tire Rack in a long time. All others appear to be TRAILER TIRES. But for the Corvair the Vredestein tire sizes appear to miss the mark by quite a margin. For a 13" Corvair tire it appears that Maxxis owns the market. For other brands you have to move up to 14" or larger wheel diameters.
