I recently removed my steering wheel in order to replace the dash pad on my late 1962 Corvair Spyder. In replacing it I somehow assembled it improperly and the horn wont stop honking when I connect my battery. Does anyone have a diagram of the proper installation sequence? If so could you post it here, or email it to me at olenelo@att.net please.
Thanks ,
Olen
Steering Wheel installation Diagram
Re: Steering Wheel installation Diagram
Sorry, no pictures
Insert the long end of the spring loaded plunger in the steering wheel
Install the curved metal disk. The center should be bowed upward ( toward you)
Next goes the plastic insulator with the 6 notches. The 3 small notches engage the 3 small tabs on the metal disk
The horn ring goes on next, followed by the plastic piece with the 3 holes
Install the 3 screws. Don't over tighten these, or you risk breaking the plastic piece

Nicely done, Chris! I looked in several manuals and didn't find a diagram; you did it with words.

Re: Steering Wheel installation Diagram
Yes, I saw that diagram when I was looking for the OP. I passed on posting because that's for a non-Monza (simple button) rather than the horn-ring type that's used in the Monza. Similar, but item 12 isn't found on horn-ring steering wheels. Substitute the horn ring unit for item 12 and that would do it.
