Throttle body injection

Post by zeiss150 »

Hi everyone. I'm working on turning my 110 in to a fuel injection (using dual throttle bodies). I'm also going to use DIS ignition. My question is...
What car did the throttle bodies used in the Clark's kit come from? In other words what's the model # for the GM TB?

Also, what kind of FI set ups have you guys put on your cars? Specifics are good.

Thanks for the help.

ted brown did the great job on the tbi conversion that clarks sells. do a search for him on this & the corvaircenter.com site. theres lots of info on what he did & how he did it.

for other non-tbi efi stuff you can look at some of the installs from american-pi. http://www.american-pi.com/corvair/html ... tion1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The following URL is the website for the company that produces the EFI system that Clark's is marketing...

One of the entrants in the October 2013 Corvair of the Month competition had a 4-door sedan that was modified to include the EFI/DIS system. You might follow this link to look at his entry and perhaps send him a PM (Private Message) or email to ask him for comments and feedback for such a project.

Thanks for the replies! I looked over the TBI post on Corvair center Great info there. here is what they said about TB models

2.5L throttle bodies: 82-91 as follows
Applications:
1985-1993 Chevrolet S-10/GMC S-15 Sonoma
1985-1994 Chevrolet Astro
1990-1992 Chevrolet Lumina
1984-1988 Pontiac Fiero
1982-1985 Chevrolet Citation II
1982-1984 Pontiac Phoenix, Oldsmobile Omega
1982-1991 Pontiac 6000, Chevrolet Celebrity, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, Buick Century
1985-1991 Pontiac Grand Am, Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, Buick Somerset, Skylark
1982-1986 Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro

This list is certainly not all-inclusive, but you should be able to find two same/similar units from what is there.

It seems like if you buy all the parts from a junk yard you could probably build a TBI system for about $500 (that's with buying some of the parts from corvair-efi.com)

Anyone have experience putting a system like this in their LM 110? Any advice? Pitfalls to watch out for?

Also has anyone tried to use MEGASQUIRT with a corvair? Details?

As stated above, you can go to http://www.corvair-efi.com, email me at ted@corvair-efi.com or you can call me at 864-940-0653 and I will be glad to talk to you.

UPDATE of what Im doing.

I don't post a lot as dont want to come off as a salesman on the forum. I enjoy the Corvair and Throttle body injection and get all wound up about it when people ask. Some people dont like EFI and take shots and some just get plain nasty...I try not to take too personal.

I am having trigger wheels made which will do away with drilling the Harmonic balancer and should be in stock next 2 weeks. We bought all of Autoline Rebuilders in Canada EFI throttle bodies (75) for EFI and were installing new/GB Reman injectors in Throttle bodies which are completely rebuilt. Im in NY NY until Wed...so I have a 12 hour drive home..... so you can call then as I wont have much to do.

The Knock sensor is now a optional item as it helps very little with very used engines as some are pretty noisy, but with new injectors and pressure regulator, new IAC motors and completely reworked with new levers... something had to give to keep the price the same.

Kits sells are through Clarks Corvair. We have a good relationship with Clarks and plan to keep it that way, but if you plan to build something yourself and outside of the normal (not the kit that Clarks Sells) then I would be glad to help you plan your next system or supply you some of your parts. You can find some dirt cheap in junk yards... the TBs are the hardest now.

We are currently working to offer a revised FC/Wagon kit that will fit better under the cover. Our regular kit using a special air cleaner had less than 1/2 clearance. We plan to stay bolt on/TBI for the forseable future to keep that part of the market we know the most about and minimize modification to Corvair Parts for ease/availability of repair. We have made a heavy investment in a new shop and equipment to start building these systems and should be ramped up in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for posting Ted! I think it's great that you're so willing to help us DYI guys. I'm still at least 6 months out from building my TBI DIS 110 motor. So I'm still building a plan. I have several junk yard parts for the DIS.

I have a V6 coil pack from a Chevy

Ford EDIS module

Ford crank angle sensor (from an escort) it works with a 36:1 wheel

I want to use these parts with the GM TBI

I was thinking of controlling it all with megasquirt n spark. I'm not sure if I could control it with the GM computer is that possible?

I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions. Thanks in advance. Matt-

EDIS won't work with the GM computer, your best bet is MS IMO.

Thanks miniman megasquirt it is. That was my original plan. So I think I'll stick to it. MS is compatible with everything I think. I'll just have to program it myself. Unless someone else has used MS and can hook me up
I'll post updates as I collect parts and start to put it all together.

You don't 'program' MS, you tune it. Programming inferrs some level of code writing- the code is already written, you simply need to provide the correct fuel and ignition values for the tables. It's easier than you think, just hook up the wideband and let Tunerstudio go to town on it. You can have a rough drivable tune in a day flat.

Thanks miniman, you're right, not program, tune... cause my C+ sucks... 11010111100001010101... right?, know what I'm say'n ;-) I hope its is as easy as you think its is. I'm just gonna plug in my wide band O2 and MAP and Temp sensor and all that other crap and see what happens. What's the worst that could happen?????? Stay tuned sports fans.
