Wheel & Tire sizes,offsets

Post by caraholic4life »

Here is a question that I hope will get some input. :fingerscrossed:

My '65 Monza coupe is for the most part completely stock (for now) and I am considering different wheels and tires for it.

I do not want to alter the ride height or suspension if at all possible.

The last wheels I had (on my V8 car) were the Magnum 500 style wheels from a 1969 El Camino.
They were 14 X 7 and I used 235/60-14 Goodyear Eagle tires.
They looked great but the front tires rubbed the front of the wheel opening and it needed trimmed a little. I would like to avoid the trimming of anything if possible.

I would also like to retain the stock tire outside diameter so the speedometer stays accurate and the acceleration is not adversely effected.

My preference would be to stick with a 60 series tire, maybe a 55 or 50 series but I do not want rubber bands on wheels.
And advice or related experience on what to do, or NOT to do would be appreciated as related to tire size, wheel offset combination's.

I would also like to use the same size and offset all the way around so I can rotate tires (But not yet a concrete decision), Thanks.

I went with 17x7 all around, but I have rubber bands for front tires. ::-):
My car is lowered and I did not have to do any trimming or rolling of fenders. Tire sizes are 235/40 rear and 205/40 front.
We have been discussing wheels and tires over here as well. http://corvairforum.com/forum/viewforum ... 25f456cdaa

Scott,

I must have had a "Blonde" moment when looking for the appropriate section to post the question in. :banghead:

I saw it just a few moments ago.

Please accept my sincerest of apologies. :imsorry:

No need to apologize. You put it in the right spot. Both places work just fine.

My original tires & wheels were Ralley ll wheels from 70s-82s camaro, nova, chevelle? They are 14"x7" with a 4.25" back space. Tires were 215/60/14 all the way around and no rubbing on the fenders. The PO trimmed the front edge of the bottom wheel well. Inside where the tires would touch at a full lock turn. He did a great job as I couldn't even tell until someone told me. No fender lip trimming.

I'm not sure if this part will work ... but then I went with 17"x8" all the way around. 5" back spacing. It rubbed up front (due to the car being so low) so I trimmed the lips a bit up front. A stock height car would have been fine. I'm running 235/45 frt and 245/45 rear. A bit tall, but they sure look good. :dontknow:
