Somewhat mechanical, sort of...... Need EXTERNAL Engine Dimensions

Post by American Mel »

I need to crate-up a few engines for transporting. (multiples in ONE crate.)
.
Does anyone have the maximum height of a Corvair engine, without the fan pulley, or Alternator?
.
Maximum width? I know I can gain an inch or two by removing the valve covers.
.
Length? From Bell-housing to rear engine support. I know I can gain some inches by removing the bell-housing, but at this point I am thinking it will be easiest to line them in a row, standing up on the bell-housing.
.
I guess I should have added, due to space restrictions, this isn't just a simple, "Well, I just toss them into a 4X4 tote and call it good." I need this to be as small a package as possible, and at this time, both my wrists are in braces, so I do not have the ability myself to obtain the level of precision these measurements need.
I have done a search, but obviously I am not using the correct phraseology the computer wants to see.

I went out to the garage and took a peek at the engine from my '65 Monza coupe.

Length from Bell Housing to the outer edge of the Oil Filter mount was 29".
Width from Valve Cover to Valve Cover was 28".
Width from the outer edge of the Carburetor base to Carburetor base was 29".
Height from the Oil Pan to the top of the Oil Filler Cap was 16".

NOTE:
These measurements may be off by a half inch one way or another as I "Eye Balled" them using a tape measure.
