what goes in tool kit

Post by new mexico vair »

i just thought a good idea for all the veterans of Corvairs could impart what goes in their traveling tool kit for their Corvairs. The first thing i did was throw a belt when I first got my car. Well, I had an extra belt, and i knew i needed a 9/16 wrench but I didn't know I also needed a ratchet with a short 9/16 socket to complete the job. I was wondering what other tools some of you carry.......any takers?

I just carry a basic standard socket and wrench set (like you buy at a parts store or where ever) set should include a switchy tip screw driver so you have slot and phillips available. I add a good pair of vice grips and a utility knife. I also carry a Craftsman 9/16-1/2 open end wrench (I call this the Corvair wrench) which can be used for belts, distributor hold down, battery and the list goes on and on. . A good idea to also have some duct tape, a few splices perhaps and a small flashlight with extra batteries. If I can not fix it with these tools it is getting towed.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
Currently working full time repairing Corvairs and restoring old cars.
