Stiff throttle pedal

Post by Jerry Whitt »

Yesterday, took the wife out for breakfast in our 65 Corsa, to a local diner. Gas pedal felt kind of stiff on the way. On the way home, pushed my foot to the floor and the engine would just go a little above idle. All kinds of strange thoughts surfaced. After some struggles, we were able to get it home.

Put the car up on jack stands and found the unexpected. The throttle linkage goes under the floor through the tunnel, comes out and attaches to
a swivel bracket mounted on the side of the trans/differential. An "E" clip had come off the pivot pin, allowing the pin to slide out from the bracket causing the linkage to bind.

The actual repair took less than 10 minutes, (had "E" clips in stock). Now drives fine.

An old technician saying came to mind, "The most simple repair is the correct repair until proven otherwise."
