I have a question for the Forum. I am in the process of restoring a ’64 Spyder, and on the lower rear vent louvers I have blanking plates for both sides that are removable. Can someone explain the purpose, and when they should be removed. It would appear that with the plates removed it would direct hot air back into the top of the engine. So I would think in a warm climates they should be left on so that most of the hot air get exhausted out the back. I have seen on other cars here in Arizona where the plates are removed and the openings are bent and enlarged to allow more air to pass up through the top of the engine. So, my theory may be wrong. Appreciate your comments.

Re: Question on rear vent louvers
On my 61 the hole is covered with a hinged flap that has a latch. During cold weather you can open them to allow warm air to return into the engine compartment to help prevent carb icing and the engine running too cold. I am currently living in WA north of Seattle...and never open them because it just doesn't get that cold.
