lower shroud

Post by dick2256 »

I have never used the 2 lower shrouds on my engine I use on my airboat
and it has always run hot
after looking at a picture of the engine sheet metal components
it looks to me like maybe I should put them on there to aid in the cooling
what are you guys thoughts on this?

How hot? Normal temperature range is around 400 degrees.

I don't have a temperature gauge but before I put a large oil cooler on it
after a hard run I had to wait 15 minutes -half hour before it would start
but the cooler lets it start in a couple minutes

Are you talking about these shrouds?

If so, yes, you should have them installed.

Can you post some pics of your engine?

Those that go around the jugs NEED to be there to force more air across the heads - where most of the cooling is needed... These are difficult to install after the push rod tubes! There are ways that involve cutting...

Good luck and Pictures wanted!

Will save you the time of removing the pushrod tubes and readjusting the valves. You're welcome. :tu:

I don't have any choice a lot of the o rings are leaking on the push rod tubes so am going
to change all of them
The baffles are the ones with the wire clips that hold them in [place and I have those installed
I am talking about the lower shrouds
https://www.corvair.org/chapters/corvan ... ine-64.pdf
if you download that picture the lower shrouds I am referring to are #11-#29 the baffles are #7 n#23 and they are mounted
I have some pictures but how do I attach them
