Summer/ winter engine compartment heat plate

Post by va3rjs »

Hi everyone

My 66 does not have the Sumer/winter plate installed , I only plan to drive the car in the summer so I was just going to make up a sheet metal plate, but then I noticed the plate on the Clarks site has a finger that sticks down into the heater box.....what is this finger for?

Does it just push the engine heat exhaust flap open on this side .....maybe for the oil cooler to control oil temp?

Any one know how long the finger is? If I can fab it myself it would save me the US purchase price and exchange and cross border shipping :)

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob, I have a spare one you can have. It needs cleaning up, I can stick it in the mail to you from N.S. No problem.

The tab is supposed to keep the flap open slightly on that side to keep some airflow going through. I don't think it a big deal to just make the cover and forget about the tab. I'll bet enough air leaks out anyway so the oil cooler is not really seeing a blocked airflow issue if the flap is not opening normally yet.
