Pricing a Corvair...

Post by H.B. »

New Newbie here looking to acquire my 1st Corvair!!
Have my eyes on a 61 coupe and saw someone mention that by joining CORSA can help with seeing how much to pay for one..
I know alot goes into that buying price as well as one's willingness/desire to get it at any cost lol !!!
..but is there any free service anyone know of that could assist me?
I havent gone out to see it in person yet but thru email the guy seems like an ass...
I asked specific questions and its like he didnt even read the damn email just answered back it cranks but doesnt turn over!!!
wth !!!
anyway..hoping you guys can help me out and look fwd to being an owner perhaps soon!!!

If you can get pictures posted up here we can also help you.

Your local CORSA chapter can be a big help to you in finding and not over paying for a car. Then they can be a big help in getting and keeping you up and running as well.

Here is Corvair Houston's website http://corvairhouston.com/about

I think its too high of a price.
He said in your first post that "it cranks but wont turn over". I am assuming it doesn't run then.

If you've never bought a Vair before Scott gave you the best advice...contact a local club member.

We are vairy helpful (generally) and remember...caveat emptor, let the buyer beware.

The less a seller tells you the faster you should run for the hills!!!

Take your time there are lots of cars out there...any particular reason you are looking at an early model?

Offer this guy 15K and see if he bites...the ad makes it sound like a winner!!!

A cherry 69 vert would put you at the top of the Corvair pecking order in Houston.

Indeed...money talks. I've been looking in the $1500-2500 range for a while now.

Just a driver...nothing special. But I really don't want another project.

As a reference, I got my 62 coupe as seen in my avatar in running condition with new brake lines, master cyl, wheel cylinders, and new exhaust for 1200 bucks. I think I even payed a bit much, but knowing the history of a car is worth a few bucks to me.

The price sounds high to me for a non-running car.

If you are serious about it be sure to have the seller supply more photos. Things like close-ups of the rocker panels and lower fenders , trunk , door jambs etc. Your main concern should be Rust !

I think Phil meant 15 C instead of K but I think even that's too much for what you've described.

I think Ebay is a good place to get an idea of what prices are. Look and see what similar cars are actually selling for to compare.
