smokes when turning left? dont know?
hi every body. i just bought a 1965 4 speed 110 horse coupe, but i have a hughe smoking ishue when i turn left. i thought it was the rings (it actuly leaks oil out the exhaust pipe ) but i have had people say it is the valve seats. any info would be great. im making a clone of my moms 65 she had in high school as a surpise for her, so im on a budget, so i dont want to buy parts i dont need

If it only smokes when turning left it's likely not the rings.
Look at the dipstick to make sure the oil is not thin or gasoline smelling.
If the oil level is not overfull it may be the valve guides or seals. When you make a turn some oil will go up the pushrod tubes to the head and then it's being sucked in past the bad guide or seal.
First try to find out which/or how many cylinders are smoking. You should be able to tell by looking at the spark plugs .
The seals can likely be changed without removing the head. If it's the guides the head will have to be removed and repaired at a machine shop.
Here's a brief video I made that will give you some idea of what's involved.
It might be cheaper and easier to replace the head with a known good one.
Sometimes corvair carbs flood over on turns and it causes black smoke but the engine usually stutters at the same time.
