Some of the wire will need to be replaced, but most will not. Primarily the areas where the cotton held moisture on the perimeter wire. I will take pics of the before, during, and after.

The seats are pretty simple to rebuild. Just take your time. I had help with these, but my Monza i am doing myself. Have fun, replace what wire you can see broken. Also...the back needs a wire added horizontally to tie each individual spring together(for better support). IMHO.

Very Nice! Thanks for setting the bar!. Mine are pretty rough. Metalwork is NOT an issue, so I may just end up rebuilding them. At least the perimeter wire.

Your seats look great. I am planning to reproduce the molded lines with stitching, (cause I can) but use cloth for the inserts as well.
I am also planning to add bolster support to the buckets

Any recommendations on wire alloy?

We used a common 5/32 piano wire. Avail. from any commercial upholstery shop or supply house. We happen to have a great supplier here in Fresno. Keystone Bros.
I had to do a little rusty frame repair myself. Well worth the extra effort tho.

They may be great in person, but their website is not exactly inviting. "Pricing is available for verified accounts only." is uncool, Usually just a way to get a customer DB for marketing.... I am sure I can find it locally, but thanks for the lead.

last night I started cleaning up my taillights. It turns out that the guy gave me some 61-63 taillight parts as well as both of the Stop/Turns for my 65. I just bought a 65 Backup lens and ring on the big auction site, still looking for one more. But the Stop/Turns cleaned up real nice with a bit of Brasso (metal and lenses)

Had some fun yesterday.

Here is the front seats in process. The difference is pretty clear... lol
This is after wire brushing ALL removable particulate matter and then spraying with Rustolium "Rust-Reformer"

I removed the right vent and this is what i pulled out of the fender... Sand. LOTS of sand.

Masked the pinstripe and followed the posted suggestions for redoing the wrinkle paint. Worked like a charm!!

Last night I disassembled the instrument cluster... Yikes. With the"high water lines" it looks like this car was under water (or 1/2 filled with water) at one point in it's life.

Got the bezel off of the plastic housing. both are now mostly stripped and cleaned respectively. Tonight it is going to be the instruments themselves.

Steve - you are really making some time on that project! Nice job on the Glove box paint - was yours aluminum like the IP or steel? It took me 2 tries on the IP, going on my third on the glove box side... Can't believe how much sand you pulled out of that fender!

Good luck with your project.

Wow! That's a lot of dam sand. I bet that the other vent was full too. I'm also laying underneath my dashboard a lot like you are. I'm going to post some ugly pictures soon. Unfortunately, my Corsa dash was missing, probably ended up in another car. I've stripped a Monza dash, but I'm unsure about using it as yet. Good dam work!

The Instrument Panel took to the paint on the 1st try!!!! the Glove box surround did too. The glovebox itself took 4 tries.

I was looking for a product to clean the plastic bits and not having much luck. The "ArmorAll" products have not been worth it in my past experience. Last night, I had the bright idea to use the home made cleaning solution that I use for my Victorian Era Sewing machines. The recipe was given to me by a guy who was trained in antique restoration in England and has since retired. It worked great!!! It also worked great on cleaning up the gauge faces...
20150617_204511.jpg
20150617_162017.jpg
Cleaning Solution--
  • 4 parts white vinegar,
    4 parts boiled linseed oil,
    4 parts mineral spirits,
    1 part denatured alcohol
    3-4 drops of household ammonia.
