Ron, hope you are planning on taking it to Portland for the CORSA convention. Definitely the Best of Show winner, maybe Corvair of the Year!
Cheers

Hey does any know what the cost of powder coating is. I'd like to do my shrouds, also if I want to keep original souls I scrap this idea?

Here I can get a fill set of shrouding done for about $350 and I mean full set including all the little pieces as well. Matte black powerdercoating looks very original.

We strolled some of the same ground Ron. I was in Okinawa from late 79 - early 82. I was in the Army over on Torii Station. Came onto Kadena a lot though.

You have done a fantastic job on the restoration. The car looks like it's fresh off the assembly line.

Well, I just couldn't wait till I finished the top and interior to get it registered. I insured it and went to the MVD and got plates for it, put the old driver's side seat in it and took it for a spin around the block. I must say, not having ever driven a vair before it was a little strange. I guess it takes a little getting used to. All in all it seemed to run just fine.
I ordered the new white top from Clark's with all the other goodies that go with it . Should be here on the 15th.

Well, I finally got a chance to get back on here with the latest update. The new top from Clark's is exactly what they said it would be, fits and looks great. Having some carb problems and will work on them next. It appears as though the floats are sticking in the secondaries as the gas just pours through them at idle and floods out the engine.

Found one float was leaking and was full of fuel, the other was just stuck. Replaced the one and fixed the other. Took it for a spin and it runs great.

Quick update,I recently received all the new interior parts from Clark's. Side pnls front and rear, carpet and matching floor mats, seat cushions for the buckets, seat covers front and rear, and a new boot. It won't be long now till my restoration is complete.

My,my how time flys by. I can't believe it's the middle of Feb. already. After having carpal tunnel surgery, dealing with the holidays and all the honey do's that didn't get done last summer, I finally got around to finishing my resto. All the interior items are in, the carpet, the kick panels, the door panels, the rear arm rests and rear pnls, the seatbelts, and both the front and rear seats were re-upholstered and installed. As you can see from my previous posts, it took me a total of 4 years and 2 months.I will post some final pictures as soon as they are available.

Just a little update. Since completion of the restoration, this 66 Corsa has been in 3 shows and took first place in 2 of them. This passed April I entered it in the Corvair of the month contest and thanks to all of you who voted for me it took 1st place. Everywhere we go people just love it. The rear engine is a huge conversation piece and gets quite a bit of attention. It also brought back alot of memories to many people.
I would also like to remind all the forum members to vote for this years Corvair of the year. There are some fine looking vairs in competion this year.
