So here are some pictures of what im up to.
Started taking of all loose parts from the Engine and now im getting ready to drop it down.
Gonna take out the distributor before i take it down. Any tips of taking it down? With or without transmission ?

Im seeing some bits and pieces i need to order, one manifoild bolt cracked and took a piece of the manifoild :td:

Not so much time in the Garage tonight, but took the whole wiring system out (engine compartment).
Taking my time to mark everything up and put screws etc in marked bags.
Now im going to sit down with the Clarks catalog and see if a new wiring harness for the engine bay is on the market

I can't remember if you have a manual transmission or not. If it's a manual then take both out. If it's an auto you can take just the engine out. But since you have been cleaning and detailing everything just take both out as long as you are at it.

Clark's should have a harness. On the other hand you could make a custom harness that would look cooler :tu:

Original a powerglide car, but a four speed now :tu: .
Im going for both :tu:
Taking down Engine and trans in one piece and after sleeping on it, i will make a new custom wiring set for it so i can hide some wiring

The reason with pulling the entire powertrain as an assembly is that it is difficult to separate the engine from the transaxle — especially with the transaxle and engine still in the car!

:wrench: The problem with the manual transaxle is that the long input shaft (23-24 inches) tends to remain embedded in the pilot bushing and clutch disc, while the other end of the splined shaft pulls free from the transmission. As the two heavy components separate, any misalignment that is permitted risks leverage being applied by the input shaft against the throwout bearing shaft, which can fracture this machined casting. Replacing a damaged throwout bearing shaft requires dismantling the differential.

Even if you remove the powertrain as an assembly, use caution when separating the heavy transaxle from the engine. If the input shaft remains embedded in the clutch, you must pull the transaxle straight back about 24 inches until the other end clears the transaxle. If you have an assistant, the assistant may be able to reach between the differential face and the bell housing to grab the input shaft and pull it free from the clutch assembly — reducing the risk of damaging the input shaft, clutch disc, or throwout bearing shaft.

I have attached a GM brochure that shows the removal procedure for pulling the powertrain.

Since I used the rear end from a Turbo car (car original with Powerglide) I had not the time to detail it and just put it up in the car. Now I have taken the rear down also to get it perfect.
Taking the whole thing apart for sandblasting and powdercoating.
When I'm down with everything I'm also gonna change all bushings, wheel bearings and make new brake lines :tu:
