Glad you are back on the Corvair! They really are a ton of fun. You should look into autocross events, Corvairs are so much fun in the corners when you've got safe conditions to push it.

Kinda funny, when this thread came up on new posts I started reading to catch up (without realizing it was an old thread) and when I got to the part about the burnout I was about to type up a warning about breaking your differential, then saw the following post. Doh! The diff is the weak link and with the amount of traction Vairs get from the rear engine rear drive layout burnouts are not generally a good idea!

Oh i know there a blast ive owned 3 that ive dailied, this is the only late model ive dailied but it handles so much better than the earlys, but yeah i plan to build a 4 spyder lsd for it eventually, and heres some pics of the floors i made fore it, i know it looks like a million pieces but i wanted to completely box the frame rails in and then fully seam weld everything for the most rigidity, and heres where it sat for 3 years neglected , and a few pics of my other pride and joy i built in the meantime, i also bought some bmw style 5 wheels for it, ive always wanted mesh wheels on his car but the trans am wheels are expensive as all get out, and single piece bbs style 5s are dirt cheap and legitimate bbs's, i really am digging these on this car, i need spacers though to bring them out a little bit more to make t look a little more beefy

Sat down today and re did the a pillar work i did years ago, i didnt have a good welder at the time and now i do, and i got a rust free a pillar to use for patches, had to completely redo the seam with all the spot welds, rust had gotten in there and only 1 or 2 of the dozen or so spotwelds were even holding anymore, turned out pretty good, i have to grind all the welds down tomorrow and throw some paint on it, but should be pretty noce once its done

Been stockpiling parts, getting things ready to rebuild the motor, 95hp heads, bronze valve guides, new valves, and valve springs, there at the machine shop at the moment, so far ive also ordered all the bottom end parts, including clarks "270" cam, next order is clarks cast pistons and full fin cylinders! I cant wait to get this motor together! Ive also torn down my spare front suspension, im going to clean everything up and get all new bushings for everything

Yeah lol i had to learn how to cut and weld being this far into the rust belt, i forgot to post about how i got clarks forged pistons and full fin cylinders too, and i got it back on the road, drove it for a few days and dropped the motor last week and rebuilt it this weekend, i almost got it together, then noticed my pilot bushing is crazy bad, so im going to order one before i put it back in the car, im excited to hear it run, but i really want to do it correctly and not have to take it back apart anytime soon, so heres pics of the engine rebuild!!! Hope to have a vid of the first startup by next weekend. Upon disassembley i found the internals of thing engine very clean, under the valvecover was mint, all the bearings had alot of life left, as did the pistons rings and cylinders, and it left me wondering why i had such low oil pressure at hot idle, which was the initial cause for the rebuild, and then i found out the oil pump had way to thick of a gasket, and im certain the was the cause of it all, i shimmed it correctly and i used the thinnest gasket in the kit, considerable thinner than the one i took off, but oh well, now i can sleep good at night because i now know its mint haha

I hd to get creative with the oil drain for the turbo with the 95hp heads, and then i was sure to de flash the heads, i was amazed how much i cleaned out of the fins, and then a pic of how it sits now, waiting on the last few little things before it goes back in the car

I got the pressure plate swapped out, runs great! I havent been getting on it because of the break in period, but after a few miles and drive cycles, i pinned it in second gear, the turbo spooled right up and it pulls really good for what it is, way more get up and go than stock, i dont know why everyone says dont use the isky 270 cam in a turbo? Between that, the 95hp heads and the big exhaust manifolds i can get 5psi in 1st and more in second and ive been keeping my foot out of it! it moves out very well compared to how it used to and idles at 14 inches of vacuum, the same as it did before

Nice project, and good choice on those 95 heads. Now...you are trying to say that you get better than 5psi with that stock YH carb.?????? I gotta cry "show the video"!!!! =D

Heres a vid, you can hear the turbo spool in first, hits 5-6 psi in first and 10 in second, pretty good for the yh carb and stock turbo, i found out i need an oilpump, still have shitty oil pressure hot, like 6-8psi hot idle at 700 rpm and barely 10psi per 1000 rpm and less than 35psi max at any rpm and i have the regulator spring stretched, hits 60psi when its cold

Been doing alot of work on the vair lately, building a blow through turbo setup using the stock carbs, and a return style fuel system with a modern rollervane pump, tial 38mm wastegate, holly fuel pressure regulator all sorts off goodies, just have to wire the pump and run my return line and I'll be ready for the first start
