Drove it this weekend. Got 2nd gear scratch, took it to 4500 rpm in 1st, hit Hwy 101. Sure is a beauty!

2019! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Well finally, good news! I confirmed with the CA DMV this morning that I'll have a JAN 2019 Registration sticker in the mail this week!
This 1965 Corvair Corsa that was decaying in a West Sacramento field for decades-is resurrected.
Albeit there is still a lot of fun work to do.
I'm going to be driving my Corvair.

Baby Got Back.

Hi Jeff and thank You!
Feels pretty darn good to tool the Corvair around the last couple of days and see want happens :) Getting the engine running good on my garage work-table after the rebuild was very motivating for me.

Drove it to work this morning!

Running Good! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hi Corvairs!
My reanimated 65 Corsa 140 is running good! I've probably put about 150 miles on it and it's peppier than I expected! I punched it to 4500 rpm in 1st gear and grabbed a quick 2nd gear change enough times to feel like parts aren't going to fall off. I've also wondered about a fire behind me. But, not as yet. This Wednesday I'll be dropping it off at Big-O for a four wheel alignment, and as I'm running 15 x 7" rear steelies I plan on having the rear camber set near to zero so that the tires stand up nice. They're pretty negative right now. The old guy that I spoke with on the phone actually owned a Corvair! I'm certain that "Millennial" grease-monkeys would screw it up. I'm bringing the Chevrolet alignment specifications with me.

As I still don't have a working speed-O, who knows how fast I tooled up and down Highway 101, but I did not slow down traffic and I passed some cars just for fun! I've bought a new-used dash on eBay with about 53,000 miles showing on the speedometer so I'm hoping that it works when it shows up.

And, man have I attracted some attention on the roads! People have followed me and talked to me thru their opening windows at the lights. And hot-chicks are thinking about me, I think.

I'm pretty cool now. :tu:

Thanks a ton Shayne!
I will report back on my alignment shop visit. Tomorrow I’m going to recheck the valve adjustment and recheck tune-up specifications. Shifted it at 5000 rpm out of first today and a carb “spit” at me a little.
Pretty fun little Corsa ride.
My goal is redline shift points for four forward throws, so it’s pretty important to get a good alignment..
And mash your foot into the gas pedal!

Alignment Good! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hey Corvairs!

1965 Corvair is now sitting pretty. Rear tires standing up nice, .9 and .8 negative camber respectively. Shop determined front end good too. Attached are the shop before and after alignment settings (Understand that the entire underneath suspension was removed and I only "roughed" it in while rebuilding). Steering unit really good too. Pitman arm only a little loose, I've never touched it, so now will :)
Sure stands out in a crowd.

Really surprises me though how so many women like the steering wheel..

I’m considering being my 66 in for alignment etc. big o knows how to work on Corvair’s and how to adjust or did you go to a specific location?

Hi!
From my experience Big-O is a cut above. Great service. I even brought specifications for them but they had the Corvair in their system. Super aligned now! Visit your local one and have a chat :)

Hey Davemotohead!
Thanks for all the super service. Engine seems to love your rebuilding of the 4-carbs and sorting out my carb mess. I always tell folks about hauling my carb parts and shot rear wheel bearing assemblies down to you at Willow Springs Raceway in So Cal and picking them up a few months later looking so good after your skilled work.
Next time I see you down there, I’d like to drive the Corsa the 800 mile round trip and we could visit :)
I’d love to see that race-car Corvair shell too. Do you drink beer? I saw you grab a cold one out of you lower tool box drawer on YouTube... :tu:

Silver Carpet Kit! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hi Corvairs!!

I'm excited about working on this silver carpet kit install for my 65 Corsa this very raining upcoming Saturday. It's a classic 80/20 loop style with padding. I also have some 50mil automotive sound restricting tape. My theme is "Space 1965." :) I'm going to get after the door panels in the next couple of weeks. Decided to cut my own and find some nice silver-y material.

PS: Floor-boarded the gas pedal to snap the secondary cards open on that 65 quad linkage and all went well to 5,500rpm in the first two gears! I got to really feel it come on!

Speed-o is still a little weird, up to 40mph it seems pretty accurate and on the highways though the needle swings wildly through space between 60 and 80. Not worried about it.

Going to the CSRG Vintage races at Sears Point this Sunday to watch some fast old race cars!

Re: Teenagers Do Carpet Kit! Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Wow! What a couple of good car-culture kids I'm bringing up. My 19 year old daughter and 16 year old son love the 65 Corvair Corsa.
They both helped out wonderfully with the carpet kit install. They folded, measured, and cut carpet with intention. Not quite finished, but looking good! It's an ACC brand molded kit with backing. Really didn't see a need for sound deaden-er or glue, I'll save those materials for the inside rear in front of the peppy motor.

Very happy with the work and connection made with my teenagers.

Teenagers can be jerks :) But not this weekend with a Corvair refreshing.
