The body tag (see below for example) may provide a clue. The numbers following the production plant ID (in this case Willow Run - WR) are the Fisher Body unit production sequence number (in this case 1827).

Another clue can come from the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
Vehicle ID Numbers Explained

VIN
1960-1964
On early models and trucks, the plate is found on the body pillar behind the driver's door. The first digit indicates the model year: 0 for 1960, etc. the second two digits are the trim level: 05 for 500, 07 for 700, and 09 for 900, or Monza. 1964 Spyders only have 06 series numbers, though they were called Monzas. 1962-63 Spyders have Monza numbers. The next two digits are the body style: 27 for two door coupe, 35 for station wagon, 67 for convertible, and 69 for four-door sedans.

Trucks and vans had a different system of numbers. R125 for a panel van, R126 for a Greenbrier, and R124 for the Rampside and the rare Loadside.

This brings us to the only letter designating the plant of final assembly. It is almost always W for Willow Run, Michigan, but others are occasionally seen such as K for Kansas City, O for Oakland, or L for Los Angeles. Trucks and vans may have S for St. Louis or F for Flint.

The number after the letter is the serial number, which is assigned consecutive sequence at each plant. Chevrolet begins each model year at 100,001 for each make of car at each production plant.
Here's an example: 30967W159661. It's a 1963 (3) Monza (09) convertible (67) from Willow Run (W) and the 59,661st (159661) Corvair made there that year.

OK, so going along with your code a Corvair with VIN #107676W184399 should be
1-?
07-700
67-convertable
6-?
W-willow run
184399-84,399th car off the line
Would you ignore the first 1 and use the 6 as the year?

Your car is a 1966 Corsa convertible. It was the 84399th Corvair built at Willow Run that year.

OK, here's another one: 69 10567 WRN149979

This Corvair was being sold as a 69 Monza convertable. I passed onit because Some thing didnt look quite right.
-the 9 was missing on the tag that indicates it was a 1969, the guy said the 69 infront of the numbers indicated it was a 1969
-im not sure what the WRN is
-also the last 6 numbers would indicate it was the 49,979th corvair produced in 1969. Which cant be correct since only 6,000 or so were built.

Was I wrong for passing on this?

Don't mix up the Fisher Body Tag, as shown below, with the VIN tag. On a 1965-1969 Corvair, the larger body tag is located in the engine compartment, on the rear frame rail near the distributor. The shiny metal, narrow VIN tag is on the frame rail next to the battery.

Image

69 10567 WRN149979 would be a correct first line on a body tag, decoding as a 1969 Chevrolet Monza convertible produced at the Willow Run, Michigan (WRN) plant with a production sequence number of 149979. This is not the VIN registration number.

The VIN for that vehicle would be something like 105679W1NNNNN, with the final digits being the serial number of the vehicle. The serial number would not be the same as the body tag production sequence number.

In he engine compartment picture below, you can see the bright metal VIN tag to the left of the left carburetor, adjacent to the battery, to the right of the battery hold-down bolt and partially hidden under the main wiring harness.

The following chart lists truck production by truck type and model year. The body tag production month and day and sequence number and the VIN are the only clues you will have available. Where that places you in the total rampside production for that year would only be a guess.

-Im looking at a 61 wagon today. By the nice chart you have posted they only made the Monza wagons in '62. So the 61 wagon im looking at is either a 700 or 500 series wagon. Which is the lakewood?
-I searched the other postings about lakewood staion wagons. I now understand that they made lakewoods in the 500 and 700 series, which I find odd but couldnt see what code would tell me if it's a lakewood.

The following year the base trim level was called Corvair Deluxe series 700 and the top-of-the line model was the Corvair Monza series 900. The Series 900's engine developed 84 bhp and was connected to a 2 speed Powerglide automatic gearbox.

For 1963 the Corvair station wagons were no longer offered. In two years 32,120 Lakewoods were made. Only 2,362 of them (model year 1962 only) were made with a standard Powerglide automatic transmission.

Thanks Bodie,
Is there any code would tell me it's a lakewood or just a regular 500 or 700 series?

The vehicle VIN should tell you if it is a 500, 700, or 900 Monza

Is there any way to narrow down to a specific model number the vehicle was made. I have a 61 loadside and it shows it was the 17,296 made that year. Any way to tell how many loadsides were made before mine?

All wagons are called Lakewood. Just like all the vans are called Greenbrier.
1961 Lakewood
1941 Desoto 2dr Deluxe
1973 Triumph Bonneville
1957 Simson S2 (only one in USA)
1966 Honda CA95

I believe those more specific records (for USA production) were destroyed in a GM plant fire many years ago.

More correctly, all 1961 Corvair wagons were called Lakewoods.

The Lakewood designation was dropped for the 1962 model year so no 62 wagons were ever called Lakewoods.

There were only 2844 Loadsides built at 2 plants in 1961. http://www.corvair.org/chapters/corvana ... adside.php 369 were built in 1962.

Looks like a misprint on the Corvanatics website. The 2475 shown in Brad's chart plus the 369 built in 1962 adds up to 2844.
