1966 500 with NO OPTIONS!

Post by b74eqcm »

I've been looking at a 66 500 sport sedan, and asked the seller to send me the body tag. Here it is:

White exterior, red interior, 3 speed, 95 hp, and NO options. Not sure I've ever seen one before. Just thought I'd share. The price seems reasonable, but until you see underneath and check the rockers...

My dad won a new 1966 Corvair in a church raffle. It was a Sandalwood Tan 500 coupe with no options. He wouldn't trade it and our '60 Impala for the Aztec Bronze Chevelle SS396 I wanted that the dealer had on his showroom floor!

The 1966 Fisher Body ID plate is often devoid of codes that were more commonly seen on 1965 models. The reason is - in 1966 GM made a couple of the former options standard equipment! Padded dash top, 2 speed wipers with washers, outside mirror and inside day/night mirror.
A radio with the standard front antenna would also not appear on the ACC line, neither would mechanical options such as HD suspension, quick steering, positraction, etc - the only items on the Fisher Body ID plate were ones that required Fisher Body to modify the standard build process for the body shell.
Here's the plate for my 1966 Corsa Turbo coupe:
Image

Pretty basic looking, but It has factory N44 quick steering, F41 HD suspension, G81 Positraction, N36 Telescoping steering wheel, U63 AM Pushbutton radio - all options that are not associated with Fisher Body. The Yenko Stinger Corvairs were 1966 Corsas that were built in December of 1965 with the same performance options + a dual master cylinder installation on the Chevrolet assembly line - the Fisher Body ID plate on a Stinger has NO letter codes for options.
The Turbocharged engine required a body modification with the installation of the exhaust pipe exit on the right rear of the turbo car's valence panel which was coded as "4O" on the ID Plate.
