Canadian body tag decoding information is very limited. Some of this information was something of an educated guess, based on available information on the Internet and the GM Heritage Center data for the 1966 Corvair (copy is attached).

Canadian Tags.jpg
STYLE 10737 2-1-15
Chevrolet (1), Corsa (07), Coupe (37)
10737 = CORSA 2 DOOR SPORT COUPE, 4 PASSENGER,
Total 1966 Corsa Coupe Production: 682 (Canada) 7,330 (USA)

2-1-15 = 2nd Shift, January 15th. ( :whoa: Interpretation thanks to Rick Loving ::-): ).
:chevy: Built on 2nd Shift, Jan 15th 1966 at the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada assembly plant.

BODY NO 263495 (Production Sequence Number)

PAINT M RPO (Chevy Code) M = AZTEC BRONZE
Image
Lucite No. 4707L, Rinshed-Mason No. A1817R, Ditzler No. DDL 71525

TRIM 795 RPO 795 = Interior Trim Color WHITE/BLACK

M2OU80
On Canadian Body Tags, options are shown using standard RPO codes.

RPO M20 = Four Speed Transmission

RPO U80 = Speaker, Radio Auxiliary

The Canadian body tag design is unique to Canada. It is painted body color, and options are shown using standard RPO codes.

VIN 610737003367
Your car is a 1966 Corsa 2-door coupe.
It was the 3367th Corvair built at Oshawa, Canada that year.

Thanks Brad! I guess there is no way to tell from the body tags if it was a 140hp or 180hp turbo? It doesn't really matter at this point because it has a 110hp engine but I'm curious what it originally had.

:think: RPO engine option codes were...

L62.....110 hp (Not offered with Corsa)

L63.....140 hp (Standard engine on Corsa)

L87.....180 hp Turbo (Only engine option on Corsa)

4 = Fourth Group, O = RPO L87 Turbo engine (USA Body Tag Only)

On a USA-produced 1965-66 Corsa the turbocharged engine option was always indicated on the body tag in the 4th group as option "O". Since the turbo engine option was an item that would have been listed on the body tag, I think we can assume that a Canadian-produced 1965-66 Corsa with a 180 hp turbocharged engine would have had "L87" on the body tag. Since your 1966 only had "M20" and "U80" on the body tag, you can probably assume that this particular 1966 Corsa was originally equipped with the standard (for the Corsa) 140 hp engine.

The Canadian body tag example shown below DOES have "L87" and "M20" on it, showing that this car was a turbocharged Corsa 4-speed coupe and that "L87" was an RPO code that would have been reflected on any Canadian 180 hp turbo Corsa.

The date code on a 64-66 Canadian trim tag denotes SHIFT-MONTH-DAY of assembly. So this Corsa Coupe, 140hp, 4 speed was built on 2nd Shift, Jan 15th 1966 at Oshawa Assembly plant.

:goodpost: :ty: Thank you for the Canadian body tag date code information. I had searched all over but had not been able to find anything regarding that segment of the Canadian body tag.

No problem, also unique to Canadian trim tags (there as no Fisher Body at Oshawa, bodies were built at the plant) is the Body # is not specific to individual body style like US tags. It is for total Corvair bodies BUILT and you subtract from 50,000 for 60-63 (early tag style) and subtract from 26,000 for 63 later tag style plus all 64-66 tags.

The VIN is also to my understanding the total number of Corvairs in the order they came down assembly. So this body was the 3,486th Corvair body assemebled but the 3367th down the assembly line at the plant. So in this case is appears they assembled quite a few 500's & Monza's (119) between when this Corsa body was assemebled and they actually needed it to go down the assembly line.
