Clarks "Econo" valve covers

Post by JasonC »

Was looking for a set of finned aluminum covers, and after seeing ones that cost $$$ or was getting outbid on a set and plus having someone stop talking to me cause I'm not a CORSA member. I took a look and seen Clarks had a few sets. So pulled the trigger on their Economy covers. They looked fairly good for the price paid. Ruff casting not painted or polished. So I painted mine and sanded the ribs. Also cut a slot to hold the top and bottom tab on the gaskets. Don't mind the dirtiness of the car underneath, I'm going to pressure wash under there when it warms up some...

Looks good. :tu:

I like the modified lower shrouds. I hope to do that with my car.

Also someone stopped talking to you because you aren't a CORSA member? That's asinine. And they wonder why younger folks don't like joining one make car clubs.

I got the headers off of Clark's and they came with a template, made it pretty nice so I didn't have to guess and have trial and error when cutting them.

I'm taking it that's why the guy stopped talking to me. We where messaging back and forth on Facebook and the last question he asked me was if I was a CORSA member. I told him I use to be, but haven't renewed my membership in years. That's the last I heard from him. I even messaged back with no reply...

Still ridiculous. He should have responded back. Unless he died, then that would have been a valid reason.

Have you had a chance to find out if they seal well yet? What kind of gaskets did you use?

I haven't drove the car to get it through it's heat cycles. Since there is a lot of salt on the roads and i'm not wanting to take it out in it. I've only let it warm up in the drive way, and no leaks as of yet. I used the blue silicone gaskets that Clarks sell.

I decided to pick up a set to try out too. I used flat black header paint and polished the fins like Jason did.

The paint seemed to match the anodized finish on the oil pan pretty well, so I polished the fins on it to match.

It will probably be a month before my engine is ready for these. Any updates on how these are sealing for you Jason?

Sorry I haven't updated. Haven't got to drive the car, but with it sitting there the small notch I made to hold the gasket has a leak. Not extensiv though, but is a leak no less. I'm thinking about using cork with some Indian Head shellac to seal it. That's what I used on my stock covers with no leaks.

And looking good :tu: reidmier

Thought I'd update. I have driven the car a few times since it's been warmer out. I checked the bolts and had to retighten the bottom ones. And since then they haven't leaked. And as for the guy I was talking about that stopped talking to me about the set he had... They came up for sale on a Corvair trader Facebook page. They sold pretty quick, cause they where priced at a good price! Anyways I pretty much put it all behind me, but curiosity had me to why he never replied back. So I replied to his ad on them, in a nice way, nothing negative. The ad got deleted.... Don't know if it was by the Admin or the seller. I'm still thinking it's cause i'm not a CORSA member is why the guy just stopped replying to me.

Edit: I'd like to add that I have no problem with CORSA or its members. You have to look at things individually... I got my Corvair off of a CORSA member, he's treated me VERY well over the years. But like I just said, you got to look at things individually...

How do you like your performance exhaust system over the stock manifolds? I've been thinking about a set. Thanks.

I've never had the manifolds on this 140, it's been with headers since I've put it in. Sorry I can't help you there.
