Darn Maine laws......

New postby 4carbcorvair » Fri Jul 30, 2010 5:02 am

A new law that started this month and is being enforced ($$$??), ALL vehicles must have a stock exhaust system and must not be louder than stock. No loud mufflers.....

Last weekend at a local car show, guys were complaining. One guy got ticketed. Guy down the street from me got ticketed a couple weeks ago with his Subaru. Road blocks were set up last weekend in one county, going after motorcycles. No more straight pipes on bikes. Quiet mufflers need to be installed. Glad I kept my stock welded Clarks exhaust for my Corsa.....

Where is SEMA when you need them to fight for you? Just another over-the-top law to go after the few idiots who ruin it for everyone else.

The biggest complaints are the Harley riders with straight pipes.... And there are a LOT of them around. :(

Find an original rusted out exhaust system and install it.

When you get pulled over ask the cop. How long did you expect a stock exhaust system to last?

Tell the cop that this is an original exhaust system but after all these years it is not as effective as it was when new. :rolling:

If they expect to write you a ticket, are they also going to carry around a DB meter and a tech pub with the listed sound output levels of all cars ever made as well? If not, they have no legal ground to stand on, period. For one thing, Harleys come from the factory with straight pipes on them. Don't like it? Take your ass to Milwaukee and complain to them, I'm sure they'd love to hear it. If they don't have the aforementioned sound level meter, they are writing you tickets because they feel like it and I would fight that sh!t all day long.

Are we seeing where voting for Progressive candidates is getting us yet?!?!?!?!? Wise up people, you asked for this.

:rafman: ditto :rafman: Personally I think they should ban rice-rocket cars and those awful "lawn-mower in a 55 gal barrel sound" on the road.... that noise will just give you a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) :rolling:

I got stopped for "excessive noise" several years ago in my old blue Corvair with headers and cheap glasspacks. I asked the cop how he determined what was too loud and he told me - " If I think it's too loud - It's too loud " He did let me go with only a verbal warning :not worthy:

My Vette is 117 DB just revving it up in nuetral and my Vair is kinda noisy but man-o-man those dang Harleys are obnoxiously loud :td: Brap brap brap pop pop brap

In that case my guess would be that they have set some arbitrary DB limit on the output of exhausts, and there's not a lot you can do to fight it. All I can say is YOU VOTED FOR THESE GUYS!!! :assault:

I don't vote. There is never anyone with ANY common sense. Common sense must be the major requirement for running for government. :banghead:

I believe it's 95db. My neighbor went to a shop that does db testing, his was originally up around 118 or so. After the installation of a resonator, it brought it down to 102, so now he is trying another muffler.......

Memphis Tn. just passed a new deal.. Makes me mad. It used to be you just went to the DMV and got your antique plate for any car 25 years or older.. Now with the new law, you have to have it tested for emissions.. Neither of my corsa's convertibles need worry about it because they are already plated and fell into the "Grandfather" law. Now if I buy another or some other classic, it will have to pass emissions.. How could something so old meet the standards?

ITs because these lawmakers are in bed with the car companies.tehy know us hobbiests will have to dump loads of money into the car to make it pass emissins.

I think its also becasue tehy want us to keep buying cars every 5 years><
