PICTURES OF YOUR WHEELS

Post by Melb-Mike »

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site. I had Corvairs when I was young, just bought two to go back in time; a 65 Corsa coupe 4 spd w/ the 140 hp engine and a 66 Corsa spyder coupe with the turbo & 4 spd

I want to change from the stock wheels to aftermarket 14" or 15" but can't figure out which style wheel to go with. Would you guys like to post some pix of your custom wheels please ?

Thanks for posting the pictures. I did a search on this forum for wheel & tire recommendations, and I read the extensive article titled "SIZING CORVAIR WHEELS AND TIRES". Great article. However I was looking to which wheels look best for me, so pictures do the trick. I really like the rally wheel picture you posted with the Goodyear tires. Thanks.

Unfortunately, Goodyear discontinued making the RWL Eagle ST tires. Mine have aged out, so I have to look for different tires, and I will probably upsize to 16" or so and take advantage of the newer technologies available in the low profile tires.

If you want raised white-letter tires, it looks like they are only marketed now by Cooper Tire, Mickey Thompson, and BF Goodrich Radial T/A.

Not sure if you know, and you probably do know, but Goodrich makes the T/A radial in very close sizes, specifically the 205-70R14 and the 235-60R14 with reasonably good performance attributes and reasonable prices which should fit your wheels. I really like your SS Chevy wheels. I also like the Olds wheels with matching paint scheme also posted by terribleted. Years ago my Corsa had the grey mag wheels, 14" with RWL tires and I always had compliments on the look of the car.

I was also thinking of the Camaro Rally wheels which are the same style as those on my 69 Corvette. I have always like the simplicity of those wheels along with their shiny good looks. I also like the Rally II wheels on my GTO but I don't think it would look good on the Corsa....not really sure.

I was hoping more people would chime in with pictures of their cars' wheels to give me a better ideal. The first Corsa I just purchased is a burgundy color, a little darker red than that posted by terribleted's car, so possibly chrome or similar styled wheels would enhance the paint scheme. I really like the color of your blue convertible, a really beautiful car. GM created a real jewel of a car, too bad they didn't carry it through, and too bad some A-Hole like Ralph Nader had nothing better to do than trash this gem.

I sure hope a burgundy car is darker red than my 2000ish Chrysler Tangerine Pearl one above:)

I loved the pearl orange on the 65. When I painted it in 2000 the orange pearls were just entering the automotive market. I started or was at the beginning of a trend:) There are quite a few pearl orange Vairs around now!!

I found this thread on the forum, and finally got the courage to do this!

I picked up a set of Camaro rally wheels, code "YJ", which are 14x7 with a backspacing of 4.38. I then installed BF Goodrich TA's 205/70R14 radials. Good clearance in the front fender wells.

Sweet! Thanks everyone!

I hope we hear more from you from time to time, and more detailed pictures of your Monza would certainly be appreciated. We would love to see a brief biography that tells more about you and your interest in Corvairs.

OK, as I was having fun taking pic's of the new rally wheels, I failed to mention I left the 13x6's (175/80R13 tires) with wire hubcaps on the other side for a 'before and after". (Don't worry, I didn't take off down the road like that!) The rally wheels and 70's tires are really what it needed!

I've had this car for 2 years, always wanted a Late Model convertible. Been working on fixing leaks and restoring the mechanicals.

My first car was a '64 Monza convertible, but I didn't know what I was doing (or what I had) at 16.

15" x 7" Olds SS III wheels & 205/60-15 tires. Chevy bowtie centers in place of the Olds rockets.

I love the look and they fit perfect, but they're heavy!
