A Short Drive in a 1964 Corvair Greenbrier

Post by bbodie52 »

This nice video was posted on Facebook by Chris Hullinger. I'm sure there are many Corvair fans who frequent the Corvair Forum but don't cruise Facebook, so I though I'd migrate this video to more familiar territory on the Corvair Forum. This really makes me want to own one of these great vans!

Here is my 1964 Corvair Greenbrier. She is a deluxe model, rust-free, with the 110 horsepower engine and 4 speed manual transmission. I bought her in July 2012 from an older gentleman in Niagara Falls, NY and drove her home 550 miles.

Thanks for checking out my van. When I bought her, I took my dad and two of our kids on the 550 mile trip to see the van. I figured we'd at least make a vacation out of it since the van was close to Niagara Falls, NY. We spent the weekend in Niagara, looked over the van and bought her on the spot. The trip home was slow since it kept overheating at speeds over 55 MPH. Anyway, we got her home, did a mechanical refresh and she's been flawless since. This van has the smoothest clutch and shifter I've ever driven. Smooth, effortless and extremely easy. The steering, well not so much.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to hear more about his re-work of the motor to rectify the overheating problem.

Also, those 15" wheels and baby moons are sweet!!
