Cowl Removal

Post by lalkie »

I have a 65 Corsa and need to remove the Cowl to paint under it. This is the area at the base of rear window ( in my case a convertible) where the air gets to the motor. Has any one removed this part to clean or paint under it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

You must remove the bottom trim of the rear window to access the screws that hold it down at the top. Also the screws at the back side of the cowl and it should come right out.

On sedans the upper screws are often hidden under the glass "goop" sealer.

On a convertible - (your picture was of a convertible) it IS DIFFERENT. I recall you only have to remove the lower screws and the top fits under some tabs - but it's been a long time and my recall may not be correct.

I do not believe there are screws holding the front of the convertible rear cowl panel. The trim clips on over its leading edge to hold it in place. I am not sure it can be removed and re-installed without removing the stainless trim along the rear of the top. I have never taken one out without also removing the trim. I am sure you can get it out without doing so , but, I am not sure you will be able to properly reinstall it...can't exactly remember how the cowl piece and the trim clips interact with each other.

Thanks for the help. I will try to remove it before removing the chrome snap strip at the base of the rear window. Thanks again Larry

Would the same be true for the front cowl under the windshield? The bottom windshield trim would have to come off?

No, just have to take the windshield wipers off.
