New 68 Corvair Convertible owner
Hello everyone,
A few months back I purchased a 68 Corvair Convertible Monza 110hp. The body is in great shape, a few areas of surface rust but all in all very little. The previous owner had started on a few restoration projects. The top is brand new, the rear seat has been recovered but the front seats, carpet and door panels all need to be done. The engine wasn't running, in fact it was seized up. I took a chance and was able to free the motor but pulling the plugs and dropping in some Marvel Mystery oil and letting it sit. After about a week I went back to it and was able to start turning the crank by hand. After a fair amount of back and forth movement I pulled the distributor, primed the oil pump, put a fresh battery on it and it was turning over like a champ. I checked compression on all cylinders and was shocked to find it was solid on all 6 cylinders. I've since flushed the fuel tank, replaced the fuel pump and both carbs, full tune up including a fresh coil and have it running. In fact I took it for my first drive around the neighborhood a couple of times on Sunday. I plan to start going through the brakes, shocks, coil springs and chassis components next. I hope to have it road ready in the next 30 days or so. The H.O.T. (Heart of Texas) Corvair Reunion 2015 in Burnett, TX is next month and I hope to drive it there. See you on the road!

Good looking car and good job getting it running! Sounds like you know what you're doing.

Nice car. Love the color. Mine is a 66 pretty well done. Older(2004) restoration, but am trying to work out some engine issues. These guys and this forum are a wealth of knowledge. I hope to get mine ready for a few shows as you don't see any around my area. We also have a cruise night every Thursday in the summer and have many friends and co-workers who go. Best of luck and welcome.
