New here. Say hello!

Post by Xavphoto1 »

Hello! Just signed up. Today, I got my first car, which is a 1960 Chevy Corvair Monza 900. I will hope to get help from other since I already need it. Driving home, the Corvair died. Don't know why, but it is currently parked at a relatives house. But, I will ask for things once I tinker some more. Oh well, nice to meet all over you and will gladly accept help!

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. Good luck with your corvair. I have a 61 so our cars are pretty close.

:welcome2:  Welcome to the Corvair Forum, and congratulations on the purchase of your 1960 Corvair!

Common and Useful Corvair Websites

Corvair Forum :link: viewtopic.php?f=225&t=6007

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your Corvair, and your goals for your Corvair. If you can describe your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you and your Corvair will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Pictures are great too, because pictures of your Corvair will help us to visualize where you are with your Corvair and its condition at the present time. Knowing your location is also useful, because knowing where you live can sometimes suggest possibilities to resolve some issues or problems.

   Hello, hope you've had some luck figuring out the problem. Electrical or fuel, probably something simple "we hope"!!! Keep in touch with what you have or have not found.

Welcome. Good luck getting it back up. Don't overlook the simple stuff. Gas gauges aren't always right so you might start there.

We got it home! But, it kept dying on us. We kept spraying Carb cleaner and it goes for quite awhile before it dies. We are thinking its the carbs that possibly need to be cleaned. Things that need to be repaired are turn signals, horn, speedometer, gas gauge and the door. Engine is the first issue to be addressed. Here are a few pictures that are better. And I don't know why the app is flipping them o:

Well, I am using the Tapatalk app to do that. But it seems to flip them. The Corvair is going in to our mechanics tomorrow. We've tried a few things, but they only somewhat worked.

Your best bet is probably to start with the fuel system. Good chance there's crud and varnish in the tank, and possibly a lot of rotten hoses on the way back to the engine. It's always a good idea to drop the tank and clean that sucker out, from the git-go.
