1965

Post by 2aftercannonball »

Like to say hello and show off a few pictures of my son's Corvair. He bought this a few months back to drive to collage. $2500 for a clean/rust free garage kept car only needing a few repairs. New front springs are on their way, going with a 2" drop spring. We played around cutting the original coils and ended up a tad too low! Repaired the fuel sending unit, synchronized the carbs, repaired the exhaust, replaced the pushrod tube o rings, freshened up the interior, buff and wax, added 14x7 rear wheels with 215 rear tires, kept the 13'' wheel up front, painted the wheels red, added a red pinstripe and sprayed cavity wax in the doors and 1/4 panels. Also flushed the brake fluid, inspected brakes and will be aligning it after the springs are installed. Fun little car!!! Everything works on this car, even the glovebox light!!!

Welcome to the forum.

Corvairs are good starter cars.

You noted use of "cavity wax." Not heard that term before. What is that?

Some of these cavity sealants are quite thin and will wick between spot welded flanges. Good technicians and shops will use this type product to get some protection between the welded flanges of newly installed 1/4 panels, radiator supports, and similar items. Seals areas that may not have good coverage of weld trough primer after welding. Can be used as an overall coating inside panels as well. A thicker consistency product is better for coating insides of panels where wicking action is not needed.

We're trying to preserve the car as long as possible. Wouldn't be right to take a car that has been so well cared for and turn it loose as an every day driver in our wet climate here in the Pacific NW without some protection! The actual product we used is a 3M Rust Fighter-1.

Antique / Hot Rod Coil Springs

These symbols of yesterday can be found getting a new life for the road in garages all across the world. Although most are being restored to their original condition, many are after a specific look, such as the gasser look of the race track or the slow and low easy rider of Main Street. Whatever your goal, Coil Spring Specialties has the expertise to set your project vehicle at your desired height. And don't over look weight changes. These changes can significantly change the load dynamics and trim height of your vehicle. So if you gain or lose a few pounds due to engine swaps or chassis and body modifications, we can compensate for these changes with a new pair of springs.

Whatever the make or model, from classic collectibles to muscle cars, show-stopping originals to clones, we have supplied auto enthusiasts with coil springs, all 100% calibrated to fulfill their suspension needs.

We build each set of springs to your vehicle's specifications. We will need YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, ENGINE SIZE, TRANSMISSION TYPE, and A/C to put into account for each car we engineer for, as all these options play into the manufacturing of your springs.

Put a front spoiler on and played around with the front look. All done with black tape for now, just seeing if we like the look and we do!

Added new baby moon hubcaps. Ordered new carpet and adjustable front shocks. Still waiting for the front springs. He's putting around 150 miles on a week and getting 21mpg, 50/50 highway/city. What is the average mpg for a 110hp Corvair?

New carpet, seat foam, front springs and shocks this weekend. Think he's done with it for now.
