Instrument cluster

Post by stevevancour »

I am restoring a 64 Monza coupe. I am planning to replace the wiring. I have an instrument cluster from a spyder could I replace the existing cluster with the spider? What would I need to do?

You can. If you car is automatic you will need to modify the cluster for the shifter to fit. This is actually pretty easy...there are factory bosses on the rear of it for mounting you just need to carefully cut out the view hole for the indicator. Running a wire for the tach and vacuum tube for the manifold gauge and perhaps a little minor rewiring at the cluster (It has been a long time since I have done this but it is not very hard to do).
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
Currently working full time repairing Corvairs and restoring old cars.
