Need help in Central NJ

Post by CaptSteve »

Hi new to the Forum and my name is Steve. I've got a 1966 Corsa 180 convertible but I think it has fuel problems and can't start it. Does anyone know a mechanic around Monroe Township who might be able to help me? Email is fsbauman@gmail.com. Thanks.

:welcome2:  Welcome to the Corvair Forum!

There are several CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters in the eastern end of Pennsylvania and in New Jersey. These CORSA clubs are usually family friendly and offer technical assistance and advice, social gatherings such as picnics, car shows, competition events, scenic Corvair-related drives, etc. Websites like the Corvair Forum are terrific, but for local advice and assistance directly from like-minded Corvair owners, joining a chapter of CORSA can really enhance your enjoyment of your Corvair. Club members can also often provide advice and references that are specific to your local area, such as good local mechanics who are knowledgeable about Corvairs, parts sources, good body shops, etc.

NJACE is one of the many regional chapters of the Corvair Society of America (CORSA), a non-profit organization that was incorporated to satisfy the common needs of individuals interested in the preservation, restoration, and operation of the Chevrolet Corvair. NJACE caters to Corvair people who live between the Hudson River and the Delaware River in the northern half of New Jersey. But our members reside all across the country, from New York State to Florida to California. We have Corvair tech sessions, social events, parts auctions, road tours and more. This is a very special car club!

Try to keep your classic cars out of Pennsylvania road salt in the winter! I lived in Lebanon, PA (near Hershey and Harrisburg) from 1993-2008 and that winter road salt does horrible things to Corvairs! ::-):

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your Corvair, and your goals for the Corvair. If you can describe your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Knowing your location is also useful, because knowing where you live can sometimes suggest possibilities.

Hi CaptSteve,

I'm familiar with most if not all of the local chapters mentioned above.

NJACE - the New Jersey Association of Corvair Enthusiasts - conducts tech sessions on a regular basis during the Spring, Summer and Fall. Join them and ask that your Corsa be put on the agenda for one of their tech sessions. If the car can't start at all, one or two of their members may be willing to take a look at it at your location.

Here is their web address, where you'll find a membership application and plenty of information about their activities:
