Re: A Tale of Woe..
Well, just went out and tried some Starting Fluid which I had on hand from pre-rebuild carbs testing. Same result. Momentarily wants to catch, but, NO. Rules out fuel?? I would not suspect a lack of fuel now. The pressure gauge you mention would not be seeing 5 psi either. The filters in the carbs ...

Re: A Tale of Woe..
Not likely there. I have new fuel tank, fresh fill of 93 and new filters. The activation of the linkage has fuel mist in both carbs, which appears even. The carbs which Mr. Meadows fixed were recently rebuilt but he notes they are not always correct for that alone. AND it was running perfect ...unt...

Re: A Tale of Woe..
Don't start messing with the ignition and timing settings yet. You said you have spark but can you confirm you are still getting fuel? Maybe you lost a fuel pump or the system is full of junk and it slowly clogged up.

Re: Revolution Electronics Fuel Pump Shutoff
Just curious, was the diode necessary for your installation? Many small e-pump designs use a pulsing diaphragm to move fuel through the system. Those systems all have a solenoid with a plunger that turns on and off very rapidly push and pull the diaphragm. With each pulse there will be back-EMF gen...

Re: Fuel pump not pumping, replace with electric?
Best to just prime the carbs with a little gas out of a bottle rather then wear your starter out. Electric pump fills the bowls right away, much better. I view the extra cranking as a benefit. An engine that has set for many days or weeks will have nearly all of the oil in the bearing surfaces and ...

Re: V8 455 PLANS?
I've never seen a set of plans although I've owned three of the conversions at the same time and even met Bill Porterfield who was the brains behind those conversions and Mid-Engineering. Here's a pic of Bill (on the right) and I in front of my 66 Corsa 455. This was from 2015 in Tucson when I met h...

Re: WHAT THE "EXPERTS" ARE SAYING: Why You Should Buy a 1960s Chevy Corvair Right Now
I'm not complaining that you brought the article to our attention. I just wish people who wrote about cars knew what they were writing about or asked for some proof-reading or help from those that do before the bad information gets published again and again. Wishful thinking I know. Even the guy who...

Re: Metal fuel inlet valve (replaces needle and seat in carb)
Are these the best option or are the Viton needles better? I feel the standard rubber tips are fine. In all my many Corvair miles and years, I've never felt there was a reason to switch to the Grose valves. Literally millions of Corvairs used the Viton tipped fill valves with few issues and I'll be...

Re: 1966 Corsa Convertible
The harmonic dampeners will help reduce the cowl shake (shimmy) when you drive over things like railroad track and uneven disturbances in the road. It's worse when the top is down. I could notice it when I had my fingers resting between the vent window frame and the windshield frame and feel the gap...

I once had State Farm. Same here. Kicked State Farm to the curb after being a loyal customer (house and vehicles) for over 38 years when they decided to sneak a single sentence into my policy at renewal time that significantly decreased my home coverage. Yes, I read all the fine print on those poli...

Welcome! I have friends in the town of Wattwil and we have gone on holiday there several times. Beautiful country but my friends drive a BMW, no Corvairs.

Re: Coil input voltage
Here's the Cliff Notes version of what Brad said...reading the voltage at the coil is not that accurate because of all the normal things that can be in play. It is normal to get full voltage under cranking conditions and lower voltage under engine running conditions. The fiberglass cloth covered res...

Re: 4 speed 1965 monza transmission
Any 64 or 65 4-speed should fit. You should post your budget and location and whether you are looking for a used functional unit bargain or a rebuilt box. Some people are okay with bolting up an unknown $200 tranny and seeing what they get but other want no surprises and only want to do the job once...
