Re: Timing
K thanks Brad. The problem I'm having is getting the idle down so I can set the timing. It's idling at about 1500 with no choke

Timing
Hi all, for a 65 LM 110, I know the RPM should be around 700 and the Timing should be around 14 deg. with Vacuum Advance disconnected and plugged.
Is the 700 RPM with or without the Vacuum Advance?

Got it. It was the linkage. Thanks. It still won't kick down past 25 mph though

Transmission kick down
What controls the kick down. My 65 used to kick down nicely just after shifting into 2nd. It never kicked down at higher speeds.
What could be the culprit?

Re: 65 Monza Runs Rough
k Brad. Eliminated fuel pump with electric. New NGP plugs. Reset idle mixture to 2 turns. Set curb idle evenly. At that point I noticed, no matter how far I tightened the drivers side, the rpm never increased. I went all the way in and no change. Passenger side seems ok. This tells me it was only ru...

Re: 65 Monza Runs Rough
Awesome. Thanks. 1st thing I'll try is the curb idle. But...if I increase it (in drive), won't it idle too high in Neutral? Also, you mention the torque converter below. It's interesting that my tranny dipstick was dry. I filled it up with 1 litre of tranny fluid but that didn't make a difference.

65 Monza Runs Rough
Similar to the post below but my issue is it runs rough when it's in drive. It runs fine in idle and higher RPM's. This happened after a long drive and got VERY hot. It ran great the whole way but after I got home and shut it down, it wouldn't run right. In drive, it sputters and will stall if I don...

Exhaust Leak
I can't seem to find my leak. I've replaced both manifold doughnuts and all smaller manifold doughnuts at the manifold. Could it be leaking at the top of the tubes near the head? Do doughnuts go up there too?

Re: Rear Axle Castle Nut
Oh I know. I just think the spindle also has damage and I cannot determine the size and thread count. I can machine the shaft but only if I know the size and get a nut to match. Chevy must have made their own thread size.
I got a 3/4" 20p castle nut and it is very close.

Rear Axle Castle Nut
I just rebuilt the rear axle and the castle nut is stripped. No idea how it got that way but does anyone know the size and thread pitch/count of that nut/stud? It seems to be a VERY odd size. One would think it's 3/4" but it isn't. Could it be metric or british standard?

Re: No spark, out of ideas.
Only things left to swap are the points and condenser. I've checked the points, they're nice and clean, and gapped at .016. Is there maybe some thing unique to Corvairs I'm missing? With the cap off, rotate the engine by hand to ensure the points open and close properly. You can test the coil manua...
