Re: Engine ID

the body tag will have a O in group 4 if the car had a turbo. turbo cars have a cut out for the exhaust pipe - 140 cars dont.

theres other things to look for also - but these 2 are are ez to check.

Re: Rings/Jugs Installation Question...

If I recall correctlty the manual says you can load the pistons from the bottom of the cylinder. Works on the early models, BUT on the longer stroke engines (64 and later) the cylinders are notched at the bottom so you CAN'T load the pistons from the bottom. Oddly the 65 manual was NOT corrected an...

Re: Ignition timing range ?

no. the stock setting is 24 is because thats what the engine needs for the correct timing at full throttle & w/boost. vacuum advance has no affect on timing at full throttle & during boost. Actually the engine gets more then 24 at full throttle w/boost. 24 is what the engine gets until the ...

Re: Ignition timing range ?

I was now able to set the timing - Clarks recommends 18 degrees, I'm probably closer to 19 @ 825 rpm. When I hook the vacuum/pressure hose up, the rpm increases to about 1000 and the advance runs up to about 26 degrees (this is from the vacuum advance). Any issues with this ?? @ 18 btdc you will be...

Re: Ignition timing range ?

It seems to me that if the pressure retard is working properly, at some point the centrifugal advance and the pressure retard will be working against one another. i get what you mean..........but they dont work against one another - they work with one another to get you the factory timing w/boost &...

Re: Ignition timing range ?

look on the right side............it shows the pressure retard and centrifugal. turbo dizzys have centrifugal but nothing happens until after 3800 rpm.

Re: LM Monza Dash-Center Pod Options

the factory option was a clock. people have put tachs there - no problem.

either can be added after the fact. youll need to add the wiring. the clock gets a 12v wire. a tach needs 12v & a wire from the coil.

Re: Engine Brake In

Scott, Your premise is flawed. Multigrade oils first became available in the 1960s, and 10W-30 the most common of those. It's the only one Chevy could recommend. 10W-40 oils didn't come on the market until the late 1960's, and by then, Chevy engineers had moved on from the Corvair. This theory is t...

Re: Engine Brake In

Must also disagree with the very knowledgeable Scot V. Note that our air cooled engines run warmer than most others. Most liquid cooled engines run in the 180 to 200 degree range. Our engines usually run in the 350 400 degree range. As the multigrade oils vary viscosity with temperature, being ligh...

Re: Engine Brake In

congrats on the new corsa vert! i would drain the oil now. straight 30w is the wrong oil for break in or after break in. you want 10w-30. you can run 10w-30 year round in so-cal. get the right oil for a flat tappet cam. something like a diesel oil would be ok. dont get anything with the energy star ...

Re: Slipping clutch...

your clutch maybe adjusted too tight. before pulling the drivetrain......follow the shop manual & adjust your clutch. if you pull the drivetrain replace: - pilot bushing - t/o bearing - input shaft seal - check the condition of the split ring/washer in front of the input shaft seal. - bell house...
