Nice 500 series like this is very hard to find. These were usually the first to be run hard, trashed and thrown away. Few were saved. Be happy that you got this rare car and please keep it as original as possible... Also it will be worth more that way...

Also on all my Corvairs a 80 pound sack of sand was added to the front trunk, this drops the front some and main thing it does it improves the handling greatly, the front tires last far longer for they grip the ground and do not slide on turns. Also I keep the spare tire up front. Good quality shock...

Before replacing the springs try replacing the rear shocks with gas filled units such as the KYB - 343127. I have seen this lift the back some. The photos look good but photos only tell 10% of the story. Look underneath carefully, especially the floor boards for any kind of rust problems, also if he allows pull up the edge of the carpets and look for rust developing on the inside of the floorboards. There are several major Corvair Suppliers, the one with the most is Clark's Corvair, then Rafee Corvair, closest is a large used Corvair parts place just outside Gettysburg Pa. can't think of the name ( I'm out west ) some one will post it's name and contact.
