Re: looking for a 4 seats convertible, why not a Corvair ?
You can get 4 adults reasonably comfortable in a Corvair Convertible, I’ve done it quite a few times. The 110 is probably easier to tune and do maintenance on and has plenty of get up and go for modern driving. I’m most familiar with Late Models (65-69) but have driven my friend’s 64 and that is gre...

Changing Transmission Mounts
Sorry if my search didn’t come up with previous threads. I believe I have 1/4 to 1/2” sag in my current transmission mounts. How bad of a job is it to replace them? I plan on buying the Clark’s wrench to handle the bolts but it is hard to estimate how much has to come apart to provide the space for ...

First car show of the season!
Got out to first local show of the season yesterday. I was pretty gung ho with a clean car and my Clark’s T-shirt.
Thank you to my wife for capturing it all perfectly!

Re: Help with my 66 Corsa convertible
As far as the coil getting hot make sure it is being fed by the resistor wire (part of original wiring harness). If it is getting full 12 volts all the time either it or the points will fail prematurely.

Re: Help with my 66 Corsa convertible
I’ll start with the typical advice; compression, fuel and spark. You have covered one of those (compression), are you seeing any squirt from the accelerator pump in the primaries which would indicate fuel. I will say my 66 140 is pretty sensitive to timing to even run. At one point, had to have some...

Re: Shifter / 4 speed behavior
Talk about learning something new every day! My car has the original Corsa shifter which I now know is a standard shifter with chrome base. With a 40 year gap between driving a Corvair, my current car’s shifter felt like it moved less and I bought into the Corsa quick shifter myth that Rex describes...

Re: Shifter / 4 speed behavior
Seth, It is the original quick shift that came with the car. I need to inspect the bushings and pin / coupling. This is first time I’ve had any issue with it so haven’t paid that much attention to it so far. It wouldn’t forward or backward into any gear but if I felt for neutral I could find it. Dro...

I originally had hoped to attend this event but life has gotten in the way. Went 2 years ago and expect to get back again next time.

Shifter / 4 speed behavior
Had something pretty odd happen this afternoon that I think was somehow my doing. I normally sit at lights in neutral with clutch out and shift into 1st when the light turns green. Today at 1 light I believe I was applying a little extra left force when trying to go into 1st and something in the shi...

Re: Baptism by fire... Electric fuel pump install.
Al's information is spot on. I did one variation on that by not including the oil pressure safety switch. I figured if the inertial switch was good enough for some factory installs I was OK with just that. The thing with the oil pressure switch is the wiring needs to run the length of the car wherea...

Re: Tire pressure
The easy recommendation with radials is 22 front, 32 rear and always 10 PSI. More in the rear than the front. Generally that 22/32 is good for most people. If you like to push the car a bit harder, especially in turns you can experiment with pressures and see what feels best to you. I landed at 23 a...

Re: New member, New owner
Welcome! Nice to have another member that feels comfortable with electrical issues. My previous classic was an MGB and I agree GM electrical systems are a lot easier to sort out.

Re: LM Front Speaker Replacement options?
The LM Corvairs use pretty much the same speaker as its peers in the Chevy lineup from that era. Do you want a speaker for the original AM or AM/FM radio or are you asking for a modern stereo in the car? For the modern stereo there are a number of sources for dual speakers in the same sized assembly...

Re: New Corvair Owner - Hello!
Welcome and good luck sorting things out. Like any car that has sat for a while usually the fuel system and brake system require the most attention to make them safe and reliable. Corvairs have another long term storage risk, animals building nests inside the cooling shrouds. At a minimum I would us...

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner
Not sure I’m understanding the whole initial post correctly. 65 and up have 2 keys; hex key for doors and ignition, round / oval for trunk and glove box. If you are unable to turn the trunk key, the glove box should have the same lock for getting a key made. If you can turn the trunk key then someth...

Re: Leaky Leaky
How much actually ends up on the floor? My transaxle looks a lot worse than that but very few drips make it to the floor (actually the cardboard I keep under the rear of the car). And I’ve checked my levels a few times and they don’t move enough to be “measured”. Remember new cars in the showroom in...
