Re: New Corvair Owner - Hello!

Welcome and good luck sorting things out. Like any car that has sat for a while usually the fuel system and brake system require the most attention to make them safe and reliable. Corvairs have another long term storage risk, animals building nests inside the cooling shrouds. At a minimum I would us...

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner

Not sure I’m understanding the whole initial post correctly. 65 and up have 2 keys; hex key for doors and ignition, round / oval for trunk and glove box. If you are unable to turn the trunk key, the glove box should have the same lock for getting a key made. If you can turn the trunk key then someth...

Re: Leaky Leaky

How much actually ends up on the floor? My transaxle looks a lot worse than that but very few drips make it to the floor (actually the cardboard I keep under the rear of the car). And I’ve checked my levels a few times and they don’t move enough to be “measured”. Remember new cars in the showroom in...

Re: Hello to all

Welcome, sounds like you have enjoyed cars so far in your life. I was also born in 56, first car was a Corvair and after a 40+ year gap I am enjoying my 2nd.

Re: It is a Corvair after all.

You are brave not having cardboard underneath it. I’ve slowed mine to barely leaking but still marks its territory. Believe mine is somewhere in that rear cover area since the rest of the engine is dry.

Re: 13" Wire hubcap needed

Where are you located? I know of an individual in NJ that is selling a set. I bought my current wheels from him and he is good to deal with.

Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe

That pan looks about like mine did when I pulled it off at 70K miles and little mileage for the previous 30 some years. You’ll notice the drain hole isn’t at the bottom of the pan so not surprising sludge collects there.

Re: Melting wires, simple question

I ment to send pictures but I forgot to get them. It's quite a sight. It appears it might be one wire but I'll get you guys some pics. I have a multi meter, but like with so many guys it's intimidating. So it's not my strong suit. But I will persevere and trace down the problem. I get the intimidat...

Re: Window Crank Handle Position

I always position so with window closed the handle is straight up. Figure closed is a good reference and straight up is out of the way

Re: shocks and springs 65 Corsa

Think you’re making good choices, just make sure the front springs don’t have any helpers. I was going to do the same but discovered my left front had helpers in it.

Re: shocks and springs 65 Corsa

I did Clark’s standard convertible springs and gas charged shocks all around on my 66 Corsa Convertible. I love the ride and handling, even on washboard highways. I’m running 14x7 wheels with 215/60 R14 tires. I really push the car in turns and it just sticks. Attached photo is how it sits when the ...

Re: Instrument cluster lighting

Just went through this with a friends 64, in his case it was insufficient ground for the dash lights only, turn signals and high beam indicator worked fine. In his case the car had been completely repainted and there just wasn’t good contact from body to instrument panel hood to instrument panel. We...

Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe

Tough situation when you don’t know the history of what has been done. Early in ownership of my current Corvair after sitting for a couple months I had lifter noise for a concerning amount of time but it went away after 15-20 minutes. I would try to let it run for at least 20-30 minutes and see how ...

Re: New here

Welcome and good luck with your car. If you have the original 13” wheels there is pretty much 1 car tire that is the correct size and they are generally manufactured in batches so availability varies. The tires are Maxxis 185/80 R13s. Many choose to go to 14, 15, some even larger wheels since there ...

Re: Clarks front shock absorbers

I have Clark’s gas charged shocks all around and love them. C2823 up front and C2824 in back. I prefer a little firm ride and these deliver. I’ve done a couple of decent highway runs and pleasantly surprised how well they do in handling washboard lanes.

Re: Rear Motor Mount

All good advice, the 66 and up mount supersedes the one off 65 mount. Taking the grill off and putting it back on is a pain but doable, don’t remember how accessible the lower nuts are with the grill in place. My preference is to support the engine under the heavy skid plate in the rear, your mileag...
