Re: Jerky / Stuttering Engine
Got around to removing my fuel .. with intention of either rebuilding or replacing. In the process I found one of the screws has stripped. Does this mean the pump is now useless? What brand of replacement pump is good from experience? Airtex, Precision, Carter ... other? When re-installing the fuel ...

Re: Jerky / Stuttering Engine
I came across a 2008 article about Corvair Fuel Pump written by Richard Finch for the Tuscon Corvair Association. There he recommended Antique Auto Parks Cellar in Massachusetts (781-335-1579) as place to buy good repair kits with the diaphragm made with non-silicone (link below if anyone is interes...

Re: Jerky / Stuttering Engine
I had a chance to work on my Corvair last weekend. The things I discovered were: 1. Tapered locking screw/bolt to hold fuel pump was loose, so I tightening it. If I recall correctly, there is a locking nut that helps hold the bolt once in position. I assumed (I realized that this assumption may be e...

Re: Jerky / Stuttering Engine
Thank you all ... looks like I have my homework for the next few weekends. I will be sure to post updates and or more questions. I am going for the vacuum leak angle, starting with low hanging fruits: 1. Check the 2 flex hose from the tank 2. Tightening the diaphragm screws on the pump (i remember s...

Jerky / Stuttering Engine
OK Guy, please go slow on me as I am very inexperienced but I would like to try. Here is my problem. I have a 64 Corvair Coupe .. pretty much stock. During my 2 years ownership, I have experienced times when my Corvair engine will become jerky at low gear and speed. This happens during acceleration ...

Re: Fuel gauge always reads empty 64,110
Hi Brad It's been a while since I last visited this forum ... busy with work etc. Been enjoying my Corvair more lately. Recently I noticed that my fuel gauge remained near Full (as it should be since I just topped up). However it stayed in the same position after shutting engine off. I did not notic...

Lol! Don't climbing the Grapevine count?
On a more serious note I am always concerned with any classic I acquire being reliable enough to drive long distance. So this journey answered my question. Not sure if anyone have similar concerns.

Corvair newbie
Hello New Corvair owner here. Didn't grow up here so no strong affinity for American cars .... but the series 1 Corvair Coupe just called out to me. Love the clean long lines. Finally found mine last weekend up in Sacramento and drove it home 400+ miles to Orange County. Cheers https://scontent-lax3...

Re: a question about the black plates
@Formy - It is very likely your plates are original to the car. The 63 stamped on the plate indicates the year the black plates series were first issued. I had a 66 Triumph Herald that also had the same type of black plate. However since the car was "deregistered" from CA DMV record I had ...
