Water Jackets For Turbocharging
You cannot get rid of the heat to pour on the turbocharging with an air cooled Corvair engine. Solution is to water cool it with separate water jackets for cylinders and heads.Plumb them together with tubing or hoses. The Corvair engine has two things in it's favor to facilitate water jacketting cyl...

Re: Racing Chassis Using Corvair Crossmembers
This is a really old post! Best thing I can say is use the trial and error method. This is a guide not a set of plans. Get some 1" square 1/16" wall steel tubing and a quarter sheet of 1/16" thick sheet metal. Build a mule frame to work out all the dimensions. Will post a simple top v...

Corvair '61-63 Three Speed Manual Transmission Tidbits
Couple observations about it.
Looks like it comes apart in 12 steps according to the shop manual.
Thing to look out for is 70 needle bearings first and then 92 of them later.
Should be fun taking it apart.
Happy New Years!

Racing Chassis Using Corvair Crossmembers
Here is a pic of a little drawing showing the goal of laying out foundation of chassis. You locate the bottom longitudinal tubes at a height from the ground. Then you locate the crossmembers the same way. It is a matter of connecting the crossmembers to the frame. Designing and building upright piec...

Corvair A Complete Guide Book 1963
Have seen pictures of a few pages and the table of contents. Our copy is on the way. One of the highpoints is it has hop up article by Bill Thomas. Notice it is 'Complete Guide'.Well, it was when it was printed in '63!:) Nice listing of all the models for each year.Something Wikipedia sort of makes y...

Re: Wiring Distributor,Coil,Ballast Resistor,Generator and Starter
Thank you Brad! It is coming back to me sort of. Can use split loom from the NAPA store to make this little bit of wiring harness. Comes in different sizes by the foot.We use black.Don't like red, blue or yellow colored split loom. Masking tape single wires to frame. Have Weller soldering gun for car...

Wiring Distributor,Coil,Ballast Resistor,Generator and Starter
Sort of need a refresher on car wiring. What are the wires necessary for a tube chassis? Looks like I forgot battery, run and start switch! Let's include those please. No need to think about gauge wiring right now. I know a couple gauges would come in handy but 'Not now Kato!'.:) EDIT Looks like I f...

EDIT Race Car Chassis Mule Design
Update on what we're up to in Corvairdom.
Decided thing to do is build one of these.
Square tubing because it is simpler to work with.Thinnest gauge tubing.
Use stock Vair suspension all the way around.
Work out battery tray and fuel tank location.
THAT is how we are keeping busy.

Corvair Overhead Camshaft Conversion
Found out something new to me today. Valves are CANTED.Not in a nice straight row so you can put a camshaft right above it. Straightening out the valves might be a good way to go. Would help if this can be done to an existing head short of casting up a new head. I do not see why they can't be. Then ...

Thanks
Carbs are taken apart with just the throttle and choke shafts with butterflies in them.
They will go in carb dip next.
Then finish taking them apart.

Thanks 63Turbo
Was told there is not enough exhaust from one bank of a Corvair engine to drive a '62-64 Turbo Supercharger.
Will look into that.
Meantime. Will find out this week how soon we will be getting a '62-64 Turbo Supercharger.

Twin '61-63 Base Engines Coupled 12 Cylinder
The idea is too provide a Corvair equivalent of a 'big block' version. Doubling the horsepower and torque would make a good powerplant for a long course race car. With a mid engine homebuilt chassis and body I thing the extra length engine will fit in it fine. Picked the base engines just to show th...

Re: Twin Turbo Superchargers '62-63 Conversion
Thanks Brad and 63Turbo Let me ask the question a different way. If you ran one '62-63 factory turbosupercharger feeding one bank and another '62-63 factory with turbosupercharger feeding the other bank. Both with Carter YH's.Small YH's. Stock exhaust manifolds and stock ducting.Just fabricated gener...
